Up until now, my reviews of super-automatic espresso machines on Coffeeness have mostly focused on machines for home use. Many readers have asked whether these machines can also be used at work. Therefore, today I will break new ground and recommending three great super-automatic espresso machines for the office. I've tested all three of these machines myself. This article is a summary of these tests, but you can also click the links below to read the full reviews for each machine.

I’ve been thinking a lot about what a super-automatic espresso machine should be able to do if you use it at work. The following criteria are likely important for most office coffee machines:
Table of Contents
- Quality: An office espresso machine gets used much more than one in a private home. Therefore, the super-automatic espresso machine shouldn’t be a cheap gadget that wears out quickly.
- Noise: The machine shouldn’t be too loud. Otherwise, it might disturb other workers.
- Design: If you have visitors at work, you might get bonus points for a nice-looking machine.
- Care: Most people don’t enjoy extra work, like cleaning the office espresso machine. It’s an advantage if the machine is easy to clean and maintain.
- Price: A price difference of $100 or so is usually not a big deal for a company, but it’s still good to get your full money’s worth.
Based on these criteria, I selected three super-automatic espresso machines that score high in most of these areas. You can also find more information in my full reviews:
I listed these three super-automatic espresso machines in ascending order based on price. Therefore, I recommend the Melitta Caffeo CI if you have a smaller budget. The Siemens EQ.9 is a high-quality machine, especially for the price. The Miele CM 6350 is a high-end model with a high-end price. However, it can do more, it will probably last longer, and it also looks fancier than the other models.
All three of the machines will let you customize your coffee and will also make respectable espresso and milk foam. If they couldn’t, then I wouldn’t recommend them. Still, espresso from a traditional espresso machine with a portafilter is always somewhat better. However, these automatic espresso machines are simply much more convenient to use. Super-automatic espresso machines are also continually improving and getting closer to the quality you would expect from a traditional machine.
Melitta Caffeo CI: An Inexpensive Super-Automatic Espresso Machine for Offices With up to Six People
There are different versions of the Melitta Caffeo CI, and each has a different model number. The underlying machine is always the same, but the outside color changes. Some machines also come with a milk container, while others don’t.
You can buy the Melitta Caffeo CI for your office here and check the current price. It is currently not for sale on Amazon.com, but it is available on Amazon.co.uk.
Quality: We have essentially done a long-term test with this machine. The Melitta Caffeo CI has been in our office for six months, and we have used it several times a day to make more than 400 coffee drinks. This office espresso machine is doing a great job, just chugging along, and hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down. We are all pleased with it.
I would still be wary of pushing it too hard, though, because of its relatively low price. To be on the safe side, it’s best if only up to six people use it.
Noise: The Melitta Caffeo CI super-automatic espresso machine has a stainless-steel conical grinder. They are generally louder than ceramic grinders. It’s not terribly loud, but it’s also not especially quiet. However, if noise is a very important factor in your decision, then this machine probably won’t be your first choice.
Design: This machine comes in black, silver or white. The design is OK but relatively simple. The milk container is made of plastic. It doesn’t look very nice, but at least it’s practical because you can easily see how much milk is inside.
Shortly after getting the machine, we decided to simply place the milk hose directly into the milk carton. Doing so eliminated an extra step and saved time.
Care: The Melitta Caffeo CI is really easy to clean. It’s great that the milk hose can clean itself with a hot-water rinse.
It’s also easy to take apart the milk nozzle and the coffee spout for cleaning. The brewing unit and water tank are both removable and made of easy-to-clean plastic. The automatic cleaning program also works well.
You can also buy the Melitta Perfect Clean Milk System Cleaner and Melitta Liquid Descaler on Amazon. However, you don’t necessarily have to use these exact products to clean the machine.
One downside of this machine is the very small catch tray, which fills up often. This can be a problem, especially in an office. People use coffee machines much more in offices, but oftentimes nobody feels responsible for cleaning them.
Price: The Melitta Caffeo CI inexpensive and gives you a very good balance between price and performance.

Special Features that Make the Melitta Caffeo CI Super-Automatic Espresso Machine a Good Choice for Your Office
User Profiles: It’s great that the Melitta Caffeo CI lets you save up to four user profiles, including your customized coffee drink settings. That’s not the case with most machines in this price class. It’s also a way to ensure office harmony if everyone has his or her own personalized profile.
Two Bean Chambers: This machine has two separate bean chambers, which means that you can use two kinds of coffee at the same time. This is the only machine that has that feature at such a low price. It’s another excellent way to let you cater to different tastes in your office.
The Melitta Caffeo CI won us over with its quality and functionality, and because you really get a lot of bang for your buck. It’s the right choice for an office espresso machine if you are on a limited budget.
Siemens EQ.9: An Excellent and Quiet Super-Automatic Espresso Machine for Offices With up to 10 People
The Siemens EQ.9 is a sleek, high-quality super-automatic espresso machine that is also very quiet, thanks to its ceramic grinder. The Siemens EQ.9 is the luxury version of the Siemens EQ.6, which was the winner of Coffeeness’s test of super-automatic espresso machines in the middle price range.
You can check the current price here on Amazon.
Quality: The Siemens EQ.9 is a high-grade super-automatic espresso machine with a ceramic grinder and a stainless-steel housing. It can withstand more demand and use than other machines. Its 24-month, 15,000-drink warranty is a testament to its durability. This would be a great office espresso machine for workplaces that have up to 10 users.
Noise: When it comes to operating quietly, the Siemens EQ.9 is unbeatable. It is the quietest super-automatic espresso machine on the market.
Design: The stainless-steel exterior and the large, attractive display make the Siemens EQ.9 look sleek and classy. There’s even a fixture for the milk hose in the catch tray, which is practical and also adds to the machine’s clean look.
The milk container is attached to the left side of the machine, and it only sticks out a bit. It is mostly hidden, but you can still easily see how much milk is in the container.
Overall, the Siemens EQ.9 is a relatively small and compact super-automatic espresso machine with a top-notch design.
Care: The Siemens EQ.9 is about as easy to clean as the Melitta Caffeo CI. The brewing unit is also removable, and it gets bonus points because the milk container and many other parts are machine washable. The catch tray is also bigger, making it a cleaner option to use in an office.
Price: The price has already dropped significantly since Siemens introduced this machine in 2015. If your budget is a bit generous, then the Siemens EQ.9 is a high-class automatic espresso machine that gives you a lot for your money. By the way, it also beat out comparable machines made by Jura.
Special Features of the Siemens EQ.9 Super-Automatic Espresso Machine
Two Grinders: One unusual feature of the Siemens EQ.9 is that it not only has two separate bean chambers, but it also has two separate grinders. As is the case with the Melitta Caffeo CI, you can chose between two kinds of coffee at the same time.
User Profiles: The Siemens EQ.9 s500 and s700 models let you save customized drink settings for up to 10 people. The s300 model lets you save settings for up to six people.
Large Volume: The water tank holds up to 2.3 liters, which is more than most other automatic machines. The two bean chambers also have a larger combined volume than most other machines. This means you won’t have to refill the water or the beans as often. That’s something you will come to appreciate if the machine gets lots of use.
The Siemens EQ.9 is in the upper-middle class of super-automatic espresso machines, but it looks like it is in the top class. Yet it still manages to be reasonably priced. It is my recommended office espresso machine that have between five and 10 users at work.
Miele CM 6350: An Indestructible High-End Super-Automatic Espresso Machine with a Simple Design
My family has a Miele washing machine that has been going strong for decades without making a single complaint. This brand isn’t as common in the U.S., but their automatic espresso machines work on the same principle. They are not cheap, but at least you will get the absolute best quality. You can buy the Miele CM 6350 here on Amazon.
If you happen to be reading this in Germany or certain other countries, you might also be interested in the Miele CM 7500. This larger machine isn’t available in the U.S. or the U.K. However, it’s a great option, and it may be available where you are.
Quality: The CM 6350 is one of the best machines that Miele makes. At around 27 pounds (12 kilograms), it’s a bit huskier than other super-automatic espresso machines, but it is excellently made. As long as you don’t plan on using it for catering or something like that, there’s no way that you will push it to its limits as an office espresso machine. (The following video is only available in German.)
Noise: The Miele CM 6350 isn’t as quiet as the Siemens EQ.9, but it’s somewhere in the middle of its class.
Design: The design is simple, yet refined. The front is mostly a smooth surface, and the display is relatively small. You can’t account for taste, of course, but the Miele CM 6350 is definitely designed well.
Care: The Miele CM 6350 has a standard cleaning program and a removable brewing unit. A nice bonus is that the milk system automatically cleans itself using hot water.
Price: Costing more than $2,000, the Miele CM 6350 is certainly in the top-price category. It’s not exactly an impulse buy, but rather an investment. You should be sure before you buy it. However, if or when you do, you will be rewarded with a long-lasting, dependable machine.
Special Features of the Miele CM 6350 Super-Automatic Espresso Machine
- Speed: When using the Miele CM 6350, you will notice that it works more quickly than other machines. That’s good because you won’t have a line of people waiting in the office break room.
- Coffee Pot Function: The Miele CM 6350 can prepare a full pot of coffee or tea at the touch of a button. That’s useful for meetings or when the office has visitors.
- Automatic Adjustable Spout: This is a cool feature, although it’s not 100-percent necessary. When you place a cup onto the tray, the machine senses how tall the cup is and adjusts the spout accordingly.
- User Profiles: You can save customized profiles, including individual drink settings, for up to 10 people.
As a top-of-the-line model, the Miele CM 6350 also has several other extra features that you will find useful.
If you’re trying to impress your visitors, this office espresso machine should do the job. It’s also not too large, and it will fit well in most offices.
Quality comes at a price, but you can still get a good super-automatic espresso machine that will last a long time, even if you have small budget. Plus, if you are getting an office espresso machine, there is a good chance that it will be tax-deductible.
So what will it be? The budget machine, the middle-of-the-road workhorse or the luxury model? Are you thinking of getting any of these machines for your own office? Let me know what you think in the comments below. As always, I’m more than happy to answer any questions you might have.
