Who doesn’t love a cool and refreshing glass of iced coffee? There’s just something about drinking coffee over ice that instantly puts me in a good mood. But did you know with a Mr. Coffee Iced Coffee Maker you can make this delicious brew at home?

I can’t tell you how many iced coffees I’ve purchased in my day. I could have easily bought my own cafe by now. But I digress. It’s time to put that money back in the bank and feel the pure joy of having an iced coffee anytime I want.

Be it on the way to work, while having a bath, doing spring cleaning or while making my way through a Netflix marathon. There’s always time for refreshing iced coffee.

I know many of you are in the same boat … trying to enjoy your iced coffee without going broke. That’s why I ordered a Mr. Coffee Iced Coffee Maker to test out.

I’ve spent quite a bit of time getting to know this handy little iced coffee maker, and I’ll admit that I’m quite impressed. Keep reading to find out more – I’ll even throw in some bonus tips and tricks for how to make iced coffee using this popular coffee machine.

Mr. Coffee Iced Coffee Maker at a Glance

For starters, there’s no longer a need to head to your local barista for iced coffee. The Mr. Coffee Iced Coffee Maker will impress you with flavorful iced coffee at home in a matter of minutes. There’s a reason this machine scored so highly in my guide to the best iced coffee makers.

At $24.93 for the black version, the Mr. Coffee Iced Coffee Maker is super affordable. You can grab one of these handy coffee makers for the cost of a week’s worth of iced coffee from your local coffee shop … and that’s assuming you only drink one a day, which I know you don’t!

The machine features a simple, streamlined design and definitely passed my “can I use this without reading the instructions?” test.

There’s a removable brew basket which holds the coffee filter and a water reservoir underneath.

Everything is made of plastic, but the reusable tumbler plays a significant role in reducing the amount of single use plastic you might otherwise waste.

Here’s a quick list of what I think makes the Mr. Coffee Iced Coffee Maker super cool.

  • Brews iced coffee in four minutes or less (I timed it!)

  • Cost effective

  • You can customize the brewing parameters

  • A drip stop function creates less mess (supposedly)

  • Small countertop footprint

  • Environmentally friendly

Mr. Coffee Iced Coffee Maker Features

Brewing Directly into the Reusable Iced Coffee Tumbler.

In spite of being such a tiny machine, the Mister Coffee Iced Coffee Maker is packed full of great features. It’s convenient that you can make your own iced coffee while getting ready for work.

Having refreshing, smooth iced coffee at your fingertips is worth the low cost of the machine itself. You probably never dreamed that you could have iced coffee at home with so little effort. Then again, if your dreams are anything like mine, you probably did!

Brew Time

Brew iced coffee in under four minutes with the Mister Coffee Iced Coffee Maker.

As I mentioned before, the brewing time for a full tumbler of refreshing iced coffee is under four minutes. Seeing as I like to test out manufacturers’ enthusiastic claims, I just had to set a timer the first time I made iced coffee.

I can report that the brew time came in well under four minutes. So, whether you want it to sip at home or on the go, you’ll have flavorful iced coffee in no time flat. And that’s a fact.

Adding water to the Mr Coffee Iced Coffee Maker.

Just add water and coffee grounds. Then, fill your tumbler with ice and hit go to get the perfectly brewed iced coffee that you’re looking for.

The coffee brews right into the tumbler, which means immediate gratification and less washing. Who can complain about that?

Saves Money

Counting Money Save By Buying a Mr Coffee Iced Coffee Maker.

The Mr. Coffee Iced Coffee Maker is definitely cost effective for an iced coffee machine. On average, iced coffees cost $3-6 per serving at national chains. Using the bottom number, at $3 per glass, 8.5 servings would completely cover the costs.

Mr Coffee Iced Coffee Maker in Lavender.

Mr. Coffee has also released a lavender version of its iced coffee maker. In case you’re wondering, the lavender version can’t brew better iced coffee than the black one! It just looks prettier.

Update: There’s now a burgundy version too!

Simple Measuring System

Measuring Coffee With Mr Coffee Iced Coffee Maker Scoop.

Although I always like to use a coffee scale when I’m making coffee at home, I know that lots of you prefer your trusty measuring spoons. Anyway, if I’m reviewing a coffee maker that comes with a scoop, it stands to reason that I should test it out, right?

Mr Coffee Iced Coffee Maker Scoop.

The Mr. Coffee Iced Coffee Maker comes with a simple plastic scoop that’s meant to make the process of perfecting the ratio of hot concentrated coffee easy. More on using the scoop a little later.

Why hot concentrated coffee, you ask? Well, when hot coffee flows into the tumbler of ice, some of the ice will melt. No one wants watered down coffee.

By starting off with hot concentrated coffee, you’ll end up with balanced and well flavored iced coffee, which is what you deserve.

Reusable Filter Basket

Reusable nylon coffee filter basket.

The Mister Coffee Iced Coffee Maker is equipped with a flat bottomed, reusable nylon coffee filter, though you can use a paper filter if you’d prefer.

I’m a big fan of reusable filters, but you can end up with silty residue at the bottom of your cup when using one.

I didn’t experience that once with the Mr. Coffee filter, even when I used a really fine grind, so that’s a win for the manufacturer, for sure.

Pod Free Brewing

Plastic Pollution from Coffee.

One thing I really appreciate is the pod free brewing method that’s been built into the design.

More and more manufacturers are catching on to the importance of moving away from coffee pods. Though convenient, the quality of coffee in k cups is subpar. Even if they started off with quality coffee beans, which they don’t, the coffee goes stale sitting on supermarket shelves.

The main reason I can’t stand k cups though is the negative effects on the environment. K cups are made of single use plastic, which contributes to the 12-14 million tons of plastic that gets poured into the oceans every year.

I’m not a fan of cancel culture, but if I could cancel k cups, I would!

Drip Stop Function

Closeup of drip stop function.

You can say goodbye to coffee spills on your counter with the drip stop function. At least that’s what the manufacturer would have you believe.

You’re meant to slide it open when it’s time to brew and close it when the brewing process is complete. That means coffee won’t continue to drip after you remove your tumbler.

However, in my experience, the drip stop function did very little to prevent excess coffee dripping onto my kitchen counter. So, it’s a good idea to keep a spill cloth handy if you’re a neat freak like me!

Reusable Tumbler

Mr. Coffee Iced Coffee Maker Reusable Tumbler.

The Mr. Coffee Iced Coffee Maker comes with a 22 ounce reusable tumbler. Designed with double wall insulation, the tumbler is BPA free and will keep your iced coffee colder longer.

That means less sweat on the side of your tumbler as well, which I really appreciate. The only downside is that your Instagram iced coffee photos won’t look as cool!

The reusable iced coffee tumbler comes with a lid and straw, which will reduce unnecessary single use plastic waste from entering our oceans.

Mr. Coffee recommends you hand wash the BPA free tritan tumbler, which most likely means water can seep into the walls if put through the dishwasher. I shudder to think how that would affect the taste of the iced coffee, let alone what it would do to my insides.

You’re meant to measure water with the reusable tumbler, which is theoretically okay. However, I don’t recommend this approach unless this is the first time you’re using the tumbler after washing.

After all, a lot of iced coffee drinkers enjoy adding milk to their frosty beverages. You definitely don’t want to create an environment where bacteria can grow easily by putting milk residue from your tumbler through the machine.

How to Use the Mr. Coffee Iced Coffee Maker

Measuring Water in the Reusable Iced Coffee Tumbler.

I love cold brew coffee as much as the next caffeine fiend, but it takes planning and time to make cold brew at home. That’s where the Mr. Coffee Iced Coffee Maker comes in. The ease with which you can brew a refreshing iced coffee may surprise you. Here’s how you do it:

  1. Fill your BPA free tritan tumbler with filtered water. You can use the measuring indicator on the cup to guide you, but I’d recommend staying a little shy of the water fill line.

  2. Pour the water into the water reservoir of the machine.

  3. Use the included scoop to measure your coffee grinds and place them in the filter basket. I recommend you always use freshly ground coffee!

  4. Fill the tumbler with ice.

  5. Press START!

  6. Customize your iced coffee with your favorite flavorings and milk or plant based milk alternative.

My Tips for Using the Mr. Coffee Iced Coffee Maker

Mr Coffee Iced Coffee Maker parts.

After much deliberation, I opted to use a flavorful coffee from Papua New Guinea for this review. It’s got a medium roast profile and plenty of body, so I figured it would taste pretty great as iced coffee.

My first attempt was underwhelming. I set the grinder to medium-fine and added one full scoop of ground coffee to the filter, but the resulting iced coffee was weak and watery.

I experimented with a much finer grind (which tasted over-extracted), then finally cracked the code by using the original grind setting and adding two full scoops to the coffee filter.

The result was everything I’d hoped it would be: the Papua New Guinea’s chocolatey notes and fruity aroma really shone through, and the iced coffee had a long, clean finish.

As far as using this coffee machine goes, it really couldn’t be more simple. There are a few things to bear in mind, though:

  • As I mentioned earlier, the drip stop function doesn’t do what it’s supposed to. I recommend keeping a cloth handy.

  • Removing the brew basket to fill the coffee machine with water is easy, but replacing it calls for a little more finesse. Make sure you’ve mounted it correctly, or you’ll suffer the consequences!

  • The reusable tumbler has a handy level marker for water, but I recommend reducing the amount of water by about 2 ounces.

  • Even if you’ve filled the tumbler with ice before brewing, you’ll want to add some extra ice once the coffee is ready.

Mr. Coffee Iced Coffee Maker Cleaning

Citric Acid Cleaner for Coffee Maker.

The reusable coffee filter is dishwasher safe if placed on the top rack of the dishwasher. Just make sure you’re using a mild dishwasher detergent.

The tumbler has to be cleaned by hand. Mr. Coffee recommends that you clean out your machine once a month with vinegar.

To do so, simply add vinegar instead of water. Use half as much vinegar as you would water and let it brew.

Let it sit for 15-30 minutes to allow the vinegar to work its magic.

Once completed, brew two more times with just water to purge the vinegar from your machine entirely.

Alternatively, you could use a citric acid descaler if you don’t like the smell of vinegar.

You’ll feel good about yourself if you maintain a regular cleaning schedule. Plus, it’ll be easier to make the perfect iced coffee every time. That’s what I call a win-win situation!

Remember to always use filtered water to minimize mineral buildup within your iced coffee maker.

Mr. Coffee Iced Coffee Maker vs DeLonghi 3-in-1 Specialty Coffee Brewer

Mr Coffee Iced Coffee Maker vs DeLonghi 3-in-1 Specialty Coffee Brewer.

The 3-in-1 DeLonghi Specialty Coffee Brewer gives you three ways to brew which is very different from the Mr. Coffee Iced Coffee Maker.

Both allow you to enjoy iced coffee but you get a few more options with the DeLonghi model. Of course, these extra features come at a cost. The 3-in-1 DeLonghi Specialty Coffee Brewer is $140.99, which may not be the budget you’re looking to spend on an iced coffee maker.

You also do not get a reusable tumbler to take your perfect iced coffee on the go.

In contrast though, the DeLonghi 3-in-1 Specialty Coffee Maker is made with borosilicate glass and significantly less plastic.

It also has the ability to brew hot pour over coffee, which some users may appreciate.

PROS

  • Makes 8 cups of flavorful coffee
  • Can use large ice cubes for bold flavorful coffee
  • Borosilicate glass carafe
  • BPA free parts
  • 1 hour automatic shutoff
  • 3 brew styles

CONS

  • Does not come with a tumbler
  • It’s not meant as a quick brew
  • Warmer plates have a tendency to scorch coffee

If you’re looking for a machine that makes excellent iced coffee, but can also make other styles of coffee, the $148.45 Ninja Specialty Coffee Maker might interest you. It offers four different brew styles and can accommodate 6 different brew sizes, including coffee tumblers.

The Ninja Specialty Coffee Maker also has a built in frother. Though it doesn’t heat milk, its frothing function could definitely up your iced coffee game.

This coffee maker uses a pod free brewing method, and creates approximations of specialty drinks like cappuccino and iced latte by brewing a rich coffee concentrate.

PROS

  • 4 brew styles
  • Including iced coffee
  • 6 different brew sizes
  • No pods required
  • Removable water reservoir

CONS

  • More complicated than the Mister Coffee Iced Coffee Maker
