Jura GIGA 10 Coffee Maker Review: You’ll Go GAGA Over This GIGA!

Hi! My name is Arne. Having spent years working as a barista I'm now on a mission to bring more good coffee to the people. To that end, my team and I provide you with a broad knowledge base on the subject of coffee.

Jura GIGA 10 Coffee Maker Review Overview

Although the Jura GIGA 10 Coffee Maker has been available for a short time in Europe, it’s yet to be released in the United States. Fortunately, I’ve been able to get hold of one to play with. Lucky me!

Why the gap in availability, you ask? I wondered about that too. Perhaps supply chain issues? Whatever the case, it just doesn’t seem fair!

My guess is that Jura is waiting to see if the North American market is ready for such a large-and-in-charge fully automatic espresso machine. Not to mention its hefty price tag. This puppy costs around 3,000 euros at the time of writing.

Despite the price, Jura lists the GIGA 10 as a home coffee machine. Still, for most of us, I’m sure it’s a little more cost prohibitive than, say, a Philips 3200.

But if you’re serious about your coffee and have a bank account to match, a GIGA 10 will look amazing in your kitchen. Plus, it’ll make all your coffee loving friends green with envy!

So, let’s take a quick look before I get into the meat and potatoes of this Jura GIGA 10 review.

Jura GIGA 10 Coffee Maker First Impressions

The Jura GIGA 10 with a freshly prepared latte macchiato.

First, let’s talk about styling. Aside from fantastic coffee quality, Jura is known for producing sleek and attractive coffee machines. The GIGA 10 is no exception.

What’s new here is the large panoramic touchscreen display and a redesigned cup grille. Also, the hot water spout is situated closer to the center, as is the brew head.

Next, there are a few operating features I want to point out, the first of which is the 3D Brewing Technology. According to Jura, this proprietary brewing system lets the water flow evenly through the coffee grounds at multiple levels. The result is an excellent coffee with enhanced aroma and flavor. So far, so good!

Incidentally, this feature can be found on other models, like the Jura Z10, but it’s a first for the GIGA line of machines.

Speaking of enhanced aroma and flavor, the Pulse Extraction Process (P.E.P) was carried forward to the GIGA 10. In case you haven’t read one of my other Jura coffee machine reviews, P.E.P. really helps the aromas in coffee to develop fully.

What that means is you’ll get the best tasting barista quality coffee an automatic machine can make. Couple that with the 3D Brewing Technology, and you have a recipe for success!

Another cool thing that’s been packed into the Jura GIGA 10’s capabilities is a proper cold extraction process. See what I did there? All jokes aside, you truly can enjoy all your favorite coffee drinks with this machine. That includes cold brew specialty coffees and refreshing iced coffee.

And the fun doesn’t stop there! When you’re done making your milk based drinks, there’s a new cleaning cycle that flushes out the milk frothing system. So, that’s one more thing you can check off your list of things to worry about.

Jura GIGA 10 Features

Now, what’s a good Jura GIGA 10 review without a walk through of all the features? Of course, some details are standard Jura fare. However, as I mentioned above, there are a few new things to take note of.

Colors

First off, let’s talk about colors. The truth is, there aren’t that many to choose from. Jura tends to stick to the tried and true colors: black and silver. Of course, that’s because the housing of most Jura coffee machines is a mix of both stainless steel and plastic.

However, there are other models of Jura’s super automatic espresso machines that do come in a red, blue, or even white finish. That said, for the color lovers out there, the Jura GIGA 10 only comes in a Diamond Black finish.

I’m good with that color combination, though. It’s going to look great just about anywhere.

Size and Weight

Before I go any further in my Jura GIGA 10 review, let me mention just how big this super automatic espresso machine is. Weighing in at a hefty 36.9 pounds (16.7 kilograms), you’ll need a friend to help you carry it into your kitchen. Don’t worry, you can pay them for their time in espresso shots!

Additionally, the machine measures about 16.3 x 12.6 x 19.5 inches (41.4 x 32.0 x 49.5 centimeters), with a footprint roughly the size of a laser printer. That said, it’s a bit taller than a laser printer.

Because of its height, it will probably only fit under some kitchen cabinetry; especially when you add the clearance needed for the bean hoppers. So, your best bet is to pick a big open area in your kitchen or office to set up your machine.

Oh, and you’ll also want to ensure there’s ample room around the sides and back of the machine for ventilation.

Bean Hoppers

Looking down into the Jura GIGA 10's dual bean hoppers.

Speaking of bean hoppers, the GIGA 10 is topped off with two separate bean containers to hold your favorite coffee beans. This is definitely a plus point in my book, since you can have two types of coffee to choose from at the touch of a button.

Think about having the option of switching to a light roast in the afternoon without having to scoop out beans from the hopper!

Adding to that, there’s also a technology that actively monitors the level of the coffee beans. That means you won’t run out mid-grind. I’m not really sure that it’s a must-have feature; both bean hoppers are transparent. Still, it’s one more thing to add to the list, right?!

User Interface

A closeup of the Jura GIGA 10 touchscreen display.

Next, let’s take a closer look at the User interface. I know I mentioned buttons above, but the interface is actually a panoramic touchscreen. And it’s a beautifully crafted one, at that.

Also, there’s a rotary switch for spinning through the carousel of coffee options with reckless abandon until you find your favorite. It’s a slick setup, and very intuitive. Ultimately, I’d expect nothing less from Jura.

Ceramic Grinders

Of course, if you’re going to have double bean hoppers, you should also have double grinders, right? The GIGA 10 has two ceramic disc grinders that automatically adjust over time to ensure the best grind for your coffee.

However, if you already have some ground coffee you’d like to use, the GIGA 10 also sports a pre ground coffee bypass. I guess it’s good to have that option for brewing as well. After all, it can be  a lifesaver when you need to switch to decaf coffee!

Oh, and if you’re in the market for a grinder for that chance decaf coffee encounter, check out my guide to the best burr coffee grinders.

Water Reservoir

Arne holding the Jura GIGA 10 water reservoir.

Now, if you’re going to have a machine with double grinders, bean hoppers and a dual thermoblock heating system, I’d imagine you’d expect double the capacity in the water reservoir.

Granted, the water reservoir on the GIGA 10 can hold 87.9 ounces (2.6 liters), which is the same as the GIGA 6. But that’s only two big cups of coffee more than the standard 60 ounce reservoirs found on much smaller models.

It’s not a deal breaker, but if you are planning on purchasing a machine as large as this, you probably expect to be making a lot of coffee. I would expect the water tank to hold at least 128 ounces (3.75 liters). But, as I said, not a deal breaker. You’ll just have to refill it more often.

Water Filter

Water reservoirs aside, at least you know the water you use for your beverages will be perfectly clean and fresh. The GIGA 10 comes standard with a CLARIS Smart Filter, which eliminates all the stuff in your water that could alter the flavor of your coffee.

Also, you don’t need to wonder about when to change out the filter, thanks to the Intelligent Water System (I.W.S.). It’ll monitor the cartridge for you and let you know when it’s time to swap it out.

Spout Height

The Jura GIGA 10 preparing a latte machiato.

Next, let’s zero in on the hot water and dual coffee spouts. Both are height adjustable from roughly 2.8 inches (7.1 centimeters) to 6.0 inches (15.2 centimeters). So, there’s plenty of room for your favorite coffee mug, although a super large travel mug might present a challenge.

In addition to being able to adjust the height, the dual spout is also width adjustable. And that’s always a win, especially if you like to use narrow espresso cups.

Specialty Coffees

With all the features and fun the Jura GIGA 10 has to offer, you must be on the edge of your seat wondering what kinds of drinks this fully automatic espresso machine can conjure up!

Well, it’s as impressive as you might think. There are 35 specialty drinks to choose from on the GIGA 10 menu, from a double espresso to a flat white, latte macchiato and everything in between.

Also, don’t forget the new feature on this Jura espresso machine that uses cold water to offer you cold brew options.

Still, you have to keep in mind that hot water and hot milk qualify as specialty drinks on the list. It’s a little strange, I know, but it seems to be the industry standard. Either way, the list of coffee specialties is still brag worthy, especially when you get those featuring milk foam.

Milk Foam

The BJura GIGA 10 dispensing milk foam.

As I mentioned before in several of my reviews, Jura machines produce some of the best milk foam around. And the Jura GIGA 10 is no exception to the rule. It’s never too thick or too foamy; Jura has its milk system down to a science, thanks to its proprietary fine foam technology.

The best part is you can order up just a portion of milk foam. Heck, you can even adjust the milk temperature to your liking. It’s just one more way you can customize your favorite drinks. And that’s not to mention how impressed your friends will be that you can do such amazing personalizations for each drink!

App and WiFi Connectivity

To change the topic for a minute, I want to point out that the WiFi Connect transmitter comes standard with the Jura GIGA 10. Which, I might add, is what I’d expect from a machine of this caliber.

That means you’ll get to know J.O.E. right away! The Jura J.O.E. app allows you to customize and order drinks from your iPhone or Apple Watch. Oh, and you can also create Siri shortcuts for your favorite drinks.

Imagine hollering a coffee order from your morning shower, and your Jura GIGA 10 brewing it up hot and fresh, so you can just grab it and go. That’s what I call creature comforts at their finest!

Warranty

Of course, the Jura GIGA 10 comes with a standard two year limited warranty, just like all other Jura coffee machines. If you have issues with the machine, help is just a phone call or a tap away on the Jura J.O.E app.

How to Use the Jura GIGA 10 Coffee Maker

Closeup of the Jura GIGA 10 preparing espresso over ice.

How easy is it to use the Jura GIGA 10? I’d say this is one of the most straightforward automatic coffee makers I’ve seen. For example, let’s look at how making a typical espresso would come together. By the way, several of the drinks can be made at the touch of a button, including straight espresso.

First, you can select your coffee strength and which bean hopper you’d like to use from the menu options. Then, it’s just as straightforward as tapping the espresso icon, and your coffee will be ready in a snap.

Incidentally, there’s another option I want to tell you about: the cold brew option! Yes, you can now brew your favorite iced coffees by tapping the cold brew selection before selecting your coffee recipe. The Jura GIGA 10 uses a special Cold Extraction Process to ensure the best tasting chilled beverages.

Best Coffee for the Jura GIGA 10

We have developed a coffee blend for all super automatic espresso machines, including the Jura GIGA 10. We tested espresso, black coffee and latte macchiato, all of which displayed deep and intense chocolatey notes.

It all depends on the beans: if you put something good in at the top, something good will come out at the bottom!

Jura GIGA 10 Coffee Maker Cleaning

Cleaning the Jura GIGA 10's milk system.

Next, let’s go over what it takes to clean this super automatic espresso machine. Talking about cleaning and descaling is probably one of the most important parts of a Jura GIGA 10 review, don’t you think? After all, what fun is a machine that takes forever to clean and is a pain to maintain?

Fortunately, cleaning isn’t much of an issue with the Jura GIGA 10. There’s an integrated program that takes care of the internal cleaning and descaling for you, so that’s a huge bonus. The brew group isn’t removable, and while I’m still a little leery about it, I think Jura is starting to earn my trust.

Aside from the general cleaning of the water and coffee systems, there’s also an automatic milk cleaning system. And let’s not forget the water filter with onboard monitoring. Cleaning the external housing? It’s a piece of cake. Just wipe it down with a damp cloth to keep the machine looking its majestic best.

Jura GIGA 10 vs Other Automatic Coffee Machines

Let’s round out this Jura GIGA 10 review by seeing how it stacks up in comparison with a couple of other machines.

Jura GIGA 10 vs Jura GIGA 6

Arne posing with the Jura GIGA 6.

First up, I want to compare today’s machine with the Jura GIGA 6

In terms of general operation, both Jura espresso machines are pretty similar. As I said in my GIGA 6 review, it’s like two machines combined into one, and the GIGA 10 is no different.

The significant differences are the Cold Extraction Process and the GIGA 10’s 3D Brewing Technology. The GIGA 6 doesn’t have either of these options, so I’d venture to say you might get better tasting coffee from the GIGA 10.

Aside from those features, the other differences are what I’d expect from a new machine in the GIGA line: more specialty drinks, a slightly better milk system and an upgraded display.

Jura GIGA 10 vs Miele CM 7750

The Miele CM 7750.

If you’ve read my Miele CM 7750 review, you’ll know I love this simple and elegant machine. That’s not to say the Jura GIGA 10 isn’t stunning; it’s just that these two feature different styling.

One major similarity is that both machines will have your financial advisor giving you an expression that makes you question all your life choices. The Miele CM 7750 is currently selling for $6,198.96, which is in the same ballpark as the GIGA 10.

In terms of what sets each machine apart, the CM 7750 has three (yes, three!) bean hoppers. However, it only has 20 specialty coffee options as opposed to the GIGA 10 whopping 35 recipes.

Also, the Miele has a single stainless steel conical grinder, whereas the Jura machine has two ceramic flat burr grinders. Granted, Miele has done its homework, so the grinder works really efficiently. Plus, the machine’s brew group is removable for easy cleaning.

To sum up my Jura GIGA 10 review, this is a high quality machine with a lot to offer, even for the most demanding of coffee aficionados. To say it’s a versatile coffee machine would be an understatement. Especially seeing as this baby can handle hot and cold specialty beverages.

It’s the perfect stand in for someone who has always wanted a full coffee bar at home but just doesn’t have the room. Despite the steep price tag, it’s still a fraction of the cost of building your own in-home coffee shop! The GIGA 10 will help you create comparable, if not better, coffee drinks than those from your local cafe.

That’s all thanks to the thoughtful options Jura has packed into its latest addition to the GIGA line. With two bean hoppers, double grinders and two thermoblock heating systems, this machine is gonna pump out some of the best barista style coffee drinks around with minimal effort.

Is the GIGA 10 the best Jura coffee machine? I’ll leave that to you to decide. Once it’s available in the United States that is!

I hope you’ve enjoyed my Jura GIGA 10 review. Are you thinking of buying this machine once it’s available? I look forward to your comments!

Jura GIGA 10 Coffee Maker FAQ

The Jura GIGA 10 espresso machine is made in Switzerland.

You can save three of your favorite coffee drinks on your watch and have your Jura GIGA 10 brew them with just a tap. Also, the J.O.E. app will remember the last thing brewed on your machine, and that’s an option available on your Apple Watch, too.

I’m not certain if there are preset functions for voice command, but you can assign Siri shortcuts to as many of your favorite coffee beverages as you like, then order them hands-free!

As with the other recipes this machine can muster, coffee is just a button touch away. Simply place a cup under the dual spout, and hit the coffee button.

You can make a cappuccino at the touch of a button. Although there is a preset recipe, you can always adjust the drink to your liking using the menu options.
