DeLonghi fully automatic coffee machines are currently making a strong comeback among the “one-touch coffee” crowd. For instance, they’ve recently taken the cold brew craze to the next level and introduced the interchangeable bean hopper.
The DeLonghi Magnifica Plus almost seems cute by comparison. Sure, it does have a 3.5-inch (9-centimeter) TFT color display and the popular adjustable LatteCrema milk system. Otherwise, it hardly differs from established Magnifica favorites.
However, in my DeLonghi Magnifica Plus review you’ll see that this model not only offers a wide selection of beverages, but also goes the extra mile in terms of functionality.
I recently bought the Magnifica Plus to test out for you and I can tell you that it’s a total joy to use. I was impressed by everything from its easy operation to the consistency of its milk foam. So, isn’t there at least one little thing to complain about? Keep reading to learn more!

Overview: DeLonghi Magnifica Plus Review
Coffeeness Medium Roast Espresso
Well-balanced with chocolate & hazelnut notes
Freshly roasted in Brooklyn
Very low acidity
The DeLonghi Magnifica Plus isn’t just another espresso machine. It’s a godsend, aimed at the growing post-pandemic home barista movement.
Right around 2022, DeLonghi recognized that specialty coffee consumption was at an all-time high. And with a whole lineup of super-automatics behind them, they wanted – no, needed – to up their game.
So, in late 2024, DeLonghi released the Magnifica Plus alongside two home espresso machines – the Dedica Maestro Plus and La Specialista Opera. Just in time for National Espresso Day, no less!
But what’s different about the Magnifica Plus? Well, for starters, this machine is super-compact. All thanks to the integrated LatteCrema milk system, removable water tank and built-in grinder. It’s also understated, boasting classic DeLonghi neutral matte colors with stainless steel accents.
However, the user interface (with an impressive 18 coffee options) is the star of the show. This front-angled intuitive touch screen display is logical and easy to use, as is the LatteCrema automatic milk frother. It delivers superb microfoam, while allowing for convenient density, volume and temperature adjustments.
Let’s face it, at $999.95, this coffee machine isn’t cheap. However, it seems more reasonable when you consider that its sister machine, the DeLonghi Eletta Explore, clocks in at $1,499.95. Comparable Miele and Jura machines also start at around $1,500.
All in all, DeLonghi has done something remarkable here. They’ve developed an easy-to-use, compact, entry-level automatic espresso coffee maker. In an age of complicated super-automatic espresso machines that baffle and bewilder, I guess that’s something worth celebrating.
The DeLonghi Magnifica Lineup: Which Machine Can Do What?
To understand the features, performance, functionality and coffee experience of the Magnifica Plus, it’s worth taking a look at the entire Magnifica series.
This line is still considered to be DeLonghi’s entry-level category, even though it has long since moved beyond the idea of making a name for itself solely with machines priced under $400.
Ultimately, a Magnifica machine aims to offer a simple coffee experience, incorporate useful technology and provide the quickest path from unboxing to a finished cappuccino. You shouldn’t have to pay too much for this, nor should you have to consult the user manual.
In my experience, every Magnifica product delivers on its promises in this regard. Any shortcomings are usually limited to minor details. Elsewhere, the cup results don’t always live up to expectations.
The entry-level king, the DeLonghi Magnifica S, and the Magnifica Plus are each available in only one basic model. However, with the DeLonghi Magnifica Start and DeLonghi Magnifica Evo, you need to be careful.
These are available with either a steam wand or an automatic LatteCrema milk system. For what it’s worth, I’d recommend buying the model with the integrated milk system. It’ll cost only a little more, while offering way more convenience and great milk foam.
DeLonghi Magnifica Plus
So how does this DeLonghi automatic espresso machine measure up in terms of features? Let’s take a detailed look.
Size and Design
The Magnifica Plus is a study in classic DeLonghi design – clean, elegant, durable and definitively Italian. Its matte grey exterior with black and stainless steel accents demonstrates excellent build quality. Thankfully, it doesn’t scream, “I spent way too much on my coffee habit.” But if it’s too dull for you, other more exciting color combos exist. Black and gold, perhaps?
At 14 inches tall, 9.5 inches wide and 17.5 inches deep (35.5 x 24.1 x 44.5 centimeters), this espresso machine is small enough to fit on an average kitchen counter. And at 23 pounds (10.5 kilograms) it’s also light enough to move around.
The layout is what you’d expect from DeLonghi. It features a top-mounted bean hopper, slanted, front-facing touch screen user display and height-adjustable brew spouts. Other functional touches include a separate hot water spout, milk frother and a removable 60-ounce (1.8-liter) water tank.
For the coffee enthusiast seeking a delicate balance between aesthetics and functionality, the DeLonghi Magnifica Plus delivers. It’s sleek yet functional, perfect for everyday use.
User Interface
Listen, we’ve all come across appliances with interfaces quite obviously dreamt up by sadists. The DeLonghi Magnifica Plus is not one of them. Unlike other machines that can literally have you screaming bloody murder, DeLonghi considered this interface for everyday home use.
First, it has a sufficiently large 3.5-inch (9-centimeter) TFT color screen. Second, its icons make excellent design sense. You’ll find milk settings on the right, coffee options on the left and everything else in between.
Third, the light indicators are actually useful. They promptly inform of maintenance and other requirements like low water, water rinses and descaling.
Best of all, the Magnifica Plus has personality. For example, instead of simply displaying “Grinding coffee” or something similar on the screen, it says, “I’m grinding beans.” This personal touch greatly enhances the user experience, which you’ll enjoy just as much in the default settings as in the user profiles.
With clear instructions and action verbs in all the right places, this fully automatic coffee machine will guide you through all the settings and the setup process.
By the way, you’ll need the removable hot water nozzle during setup, so make sure to keep it on hand. However, feel free to go ahead and leave the user manual in the box.
Conical Burr Grinder
No Magnifica fully automatic coffee machine is truly quiet. You’ll definitely notice the 67.7 decibels measured in the Plus model – not necessarily because of the volume, but because of the slightly shrill sound.
Of the usual 13 settings on the DeLonghi conical grinder, I generally recommend sticking with 2 or 3. However, during the testing phase of my DeLonghi Magnifica Plus review I used very fresh coffee beans, so I ended up going a little coarser.
For espresso, setting 3 makes sense, but for coffee, you should go as high as 5 – at least if you want to turn your beans into coffee and milk drinks shortly after roasting.
LatteCrema Milk System
Ever since the introduction of the LatteCrema milk system, DeLonghi coffee machines have triumphed in terms of milk foam and specialty drinks.
During my DeLonghi Magnifica Plus review, I was reminded of just how effective the LatteCrema system can be. Seriously, whether you want your milk dense, creamy or light, this machine will deliver the goods. Both the latte and cappuccino come with tons of foam when you use the highest setting. Not only that, the results are particularly fluffy and delicious. Finally, both drinks were delivered at 158 degrees Fahrenheit (70 degrees Celsius), which will appeal to just about everyone.
One-Touch Recipes
The Magnifica Plus comes pre-programmed with 18 one-touch preset recipes ranging from the basics (espresso, coffee) to the fancy (flat white, latte macchiato). There are even tea and hot chocolate options for the kids and caffeine-averse folks in your life.
All this customization is a favorite for me in this DeLonghi Magnifica Plus review. Case in point: This machine boasts four drink sizes and five brew strength levels. These provide a matrix of possibilities.
If you’re expecting your coffee to really get your heart racing, you won’t be disappointed. Both the espresso (strength level 5) and the coffee (strength level 3) are, with my Coffeeness Espresso Blend, right on the edge of being too intense.
In hindsight, I’d dial the espresso down a bit; for the coffee, it depends on how you’re feeling that day. Oh, and you can leave the temperature at the factory setting. Still, if you do want to adjust it, you’ll have to dig a little deeper into the menu.
User Profiles
The Magnifica Plus enables you to create up to four user profiles with five drink settings for every family member. Your perfect brew settings – coffee strength, temperature, volume and milk texture – are all saved at the touch of a button.
Why is this feature so valuable? Imagine this: Your partner is partial to a latte macchiato, your teenager prefers a weak latte and you’re a medium cappuccino kinda person.
Instead of playing with these settings every brew session, you can select your profile and voilà — tailored coffee just how you prefer it! And you know what that means? No more “Who tampered with my perfect cup setup?” grumbles in the morning!
To me, these intelligent, user-oriented touches are what make the DeLonghi Magnifica Plus stand out.
The DeLonghi Magnifica Plus in Use
Now, let’s talk about how to operate this DeLonghi espresso machine. After cleaning all removable parts and filling the reservoir, load fresh beans into the hopper and close the lid tight. Then, plug in the coffee machine, which will run you through a few initial set-up procedures.
Now you’re ready to brew. And don’t worry – the easy-to-navigate interface will be your guide.
While user profiles are usually just a nice-to-have feature, I consider them essential on the DeLonghi Magnifica Plus. That’s because, by default, you can only adjust the size of all coffee specialties from S to XL.
That doesn’t fit every coffee cup or coffee glass. However, with espresso, the S setting yields about 35 grams of coffee in the cup, which is perfectly acceptable. Coffee, americano and lungo also come out at my usual 4-ounce (120 milliliter) recommendation with the S setting.
To adjust the settings for a cappuccino or latte macchiato, you should definitely go with the user profiles. In doing so, you can precisely adjust the dispensing amount to fit your cup. Start the drink in programming mode, dispense coffee and milk or milk foam until you reach the desired amount then press the stop button.
When using the default settings, the machine didn’t quite fill my coffee glasses for either cappuccino or latte macchiato. But of course, that might be different for you.
Speaking of lattes and cappuccinos: The LatteCrema Hot system lets you adjust the frothiness of the milk foam right on the container. I found the highest setting worked best for cappuccino and similar drinks.
But don’t forget that the rotary switch also has a cleaning setting. Before dispensing milk foam, be sure to check that it’s set to “Milk” and not “Rinse.”
How Does Espresso From the DeLonghi Magnifica Plus Taste?
DeLonghi coffee in general, and Magnifica coffee in particular, focuses on a classically sweet flavor profile that prioritizes immediate appeal over complexity.
Other fully automatic coffee machines may extract a more nuanced flavor from my beans, but the Magnifica Plus extracts everything we love most – chocolate, caramel, and satisfying richness.
During my test, the machine delivered espresso at 149 degrees Fahrenheit (65 degrees Celsius), while the coffee was a pleasant 174 degrees Fahrenheit (79 degrees Celsius). So, I’m confident that even the most cold-sensitive among you will be satisfied.
If you want a little less “punch” in your cup, lowering the coffee strength is the first adjustment I’d make. Just one notch lower ensures that the intensity isn’t quite so overwhelming.
Best Coffee for the DeLonghi Magnifica Plus
Coffeeness Medium Roast Espresso
Well-balanced with chocolate & hazelnut notes
Freshly roasted in Brooklyn
Very low acidity
After 10 years reviewing super automatics and espresso machines, and over 15 years reviewing coffee beans, we’re proud to offer our own Coffeeness Espresso Blend. Comprising ethically farmed and sourced coffee beans, our Espresso Blend is expertly roasted in small batches to guarantee freshness.
This premium blend of direct trade Brazilian coffee beans produces rich, bold and complex espresso that’s ideal straight or paired with milk. Featuring notes of chocolate and hazelnut, our Espresso Blend is particularly low in acidity, making it easy on the stomach.
Here’s how we recommend setting up your DeLonghi Magnifica Plus for the perfect cup of coffee:
Grind setting: Level 2-5, depending on the freshness of your beans
Attention: Only make adjustments when the grinder is running!
Espresso & coffee volume: Smallest size (S)
Coffee strength: Level 4
Temperature: Factory setting
DeLonghi Coffee Machine Cleaning
I’m happy to report that there’s very little to say about cleaning and descaling the DeLonghi Magnifica Plus. Which is a good thing, right? During my testing I particularly appreciated how easy it was to see what needs to be done thanks to the fantastic color screen.
Sure, some folks might grumble about the brew unit sitting behind the water tank. This means that you have to first remove the reservoir in order to take out the brew unit and rinse it under the tap.
However, I see it differently: If you’ve already removed the reservoir, you might as well give it a thorough rinse and let it dry outside the machine. That way, you’ll avoid excessive limescale buildup as well as mold and algae issues.
As always, the used grounds container and drip tray are dishwasher safe. However, you’ll want to clean the water tank, milk system and other components by hand.

DeLonghi Magnifica Plus vs Other Super Automatics
How does the DeLonghi Magnifica Plus measure up to its siblings? Let’s take a gander.
Magnifica Plus vs Dinamica Plus
The DeLonghi Dinamica Plus is more like your reliable workhorse. It boasts a retro boxy appearance, compared to the Magnifica Plus’ newer, sleeker shape.
From a user interface standpoint, the earlier-model Dinamica Plus, despite Brad Pitt’s celebrity endorsement, is more old-fashioned. While it has a TFT touchscreen display, it can’t compare to that on the Magnifica Plus. It also boasts a Coffee Link app (for the Internet-of-Things inclined) and an iced coffee function. These features are absent in the Magnifica Plus.
When it comes to coffee grinding, both machines use a 13-setting conical burr grinder. Both DeLonghi espresso machines also boast a 60-ounce (1.8-liter) water reservoir and use the automatic LatteCrema milk frother system.
But the biggest difference shows itself in the user profiles. The Dinamica has three, while the Magnifica Plus stores up to five.
So, which do I favor? To be honest, I’m on the fence. Both DeLonghi machines are pretty much on par. Ultimately, your choice will depend on your design tastes, user interface preferences and whether you value internet connectivity.

Magnifica Plus vs Magnifica Evo
The DeLonghi Magnifica Plus and its next-generation cousin, the DeLonghi Magnifica Evo, are DNA twins. The Plus proudly sports that boxy, utilitarian appearance in classic silver-and-black. Similarly, the Evo cleans up with streamlined lines, a removable brew group and less plasticky materials.
Interface-wise, the Evo stays old-school with a slimmer control panel featuring backlit soft-touch buttons. In contrast, the Plus employs effortless swipe controls on a bigger graphical color touch screen.
Both also have a 60-ounce (1.8-liter) removable water reservoir and 13-adjustment-level conical burr grinders. However, the Evo’s less noisy grinder makes for quieter brewing. For milk drinks, both machines leverage the foam-on-demand LatteCrema system with programmable milk foam settings and removable hot milk carafe.
Price-wise, there’s quite a difference. The Evo is much more affordable at $599.95.
My verdict? If money is tight, the Evo will do. But if you can stretch to the Plus, then all those minor quality-of-life upgrades make for better coffee.

If you’ve made it this far into my DeLonghi Magnifica Plus review, it should be clear how much I love this fully automatic espresso machine. And not just because of its expanded specialty drink menu and the superb milk foam it produces.
I have to say that this is the most user-friendly DeLonghi espresso machine I’ve ever used, and that’s really saying something. After all, there’s some really sophisticated and complex technology going on behind the scenes.
Ultimately, though, the best fully automatic espresso machines have to be capable of dispensing top-notch espresso. And the DeLonghi Magnifica Plus definitely does just that!.
So, who should buy this? Consider the Magnifica Plus if you live in a multi-coffee family with differing tastes. It’s also a catch if you value build quality and logical touch screen interfaces.
Is it perfect? No device is. I think the drip tray is too tiny (thanks to the compact footprint). It also lacks WiFi connectivity, though, unlike many, I don’t need my coffee maker to connect to the Internet of Things.
But given its price, my verdict for this DeLonghi Magnifica Plus review is definitive: This home espresso coffee machine provides incredible value, convenience and excellent coffee options for its category. It’s decent for a no-frills, entry-level super-automatic that does exactly what it says on the tin.
Have you tried the DeLonghi Magnifica Plus, or are you considering adding it to your kitchen lineup? I’d love to hear from you! Drop a comment below sharing your experience or any questions about this coffee machine.
