Breville Luxe Brewer Review: An Upgrade Worth Considering?

Hi! My name is Arne. Having spent years working as a barista I'm now on a mission to bring more good coffee to the people. To that end, my team and I provide you with a broad knowledge base on the subject of coffee.

This Breville Luxe Brewer review isn't just another coffee appliance deep dive for the sake of it. You see, every morning, too many Americans face the same frustration: mediocre home-brewed coffee that doesn't quite match up to their favorite coffee shop offerings.

This Breville Luxe Brewer review isn’t just another coffee appliance deep dive for the sake of it. You see, every morning, too many Americans face the same frustration: mediocre home-brewed coffee that doesn’t quite match up to their favorite coffee shop offerings.

Most blame their beans or brewing technique. However, after many years spent testing coffee makers, I’ve learned that the real culprit is often the brewing equipment itself.

Breville recognized this gap and launched the Luxe Brewer in June 2025. It came with a bold promise: to deliver pour-over precision with push-button convenience.

But does it deliver?

Before I buy the Luxe Brewer to test out, I’d like to unpack this sleek machine with an honest first look. So, without further ado, let’s dive into the good stuff.

Breville Luxe Brewer Review Overview

At first glance, the Breville Luxe Brewer features premium build quality. The stunning brushed stainless steel body, sleek glass carafe and BPA-free plastic components are stand-out gorgeous. Plus, at 16 inches (40.7 centimeters) tall and weighing 10.3 pounds (8.6 kilograms), this coffee maker has a commanding presence.

In line with the best drip coffee makers, thoughtful touches abound. Chief among these are a removable, 60-ounce (1.8-liter) water tank. I also love the stylish silhouette and sleek, high-contrast user interface.

But the real magic happens within the brewer itself. A thermocoil heater with PID temperature control promises to maintain optimal brew temperatures. Similarly, a pre-infusion function dampens coffee grounds with a small amount of hot water for maximum flavor extraction.

The Luxe Brewer also boasts customizable brew settings and programmable controls, including single-serve and one-touch brewing. Even better, you can dial in these settings up to 24 hours in advance.

Unsurprisingly, Breville included cold brew functionality, in line with modern fourth-wave trends. And although I’m generally skeptical of machines that integrate cold brew options, it could turn out great in this case.

The value proposition here is straightforward: spend $319.95 once instead of $6 daily at your local coffee shop. It’ll especially appeal to you if you’re a busy coffee-loving professional. It also suits pour-over enthusiasts wanting automation or large households with many taste preferences.

However, this is not the machine for you if you’re an occasional morning coffee brewer. It may also not be for you if you’re a budget-conscious coffee lover or have a small kitchen. The price just won’t justify the investment.

What Are the Core Features of the Breville Luxe Brewer?

The Breville Luxe Brewer packs serious brewing tech into an elegant package. In a nutshell, here’s what you’re getting:

  • Precision thermocoil heater

  • PID temperature control

  • Pre-infusion technology

  • 24-hour programmable timer

  • Convenient one-touch brewing

  • Customizable brew strengths

  • Single-serve or batch-brew modes

  • Dedicated cold brew function

  • Dual filters (flat-bottom and cone-shaped)

  • Removable 60-ounce (1.8-liter) water reservoir

  • Heat-resistant, borosilicate glass carafe

  • Safety-first, energy-efficient auto shut-off

  • SCA certification

One‑Touch Brewing Mode

Breville Luxe Brewer Interface

The first core feature I’ll discuss in this Breville Luxe Brewer review is one-touch brewing. It’s Breville’s answer to morning brain fog.

At the touch of a button, this machine handles brewing following pre-programmed or custom settings. It’ll heat water, set brew times, control flow rates and, if prompted, pre-wet coffee grounds for maximum flavor extraction; much like the best smart coffee makers.

It’s worth noting that the pre-programmed settings lean toward crowd-pleasing rather than specific tastes. However, the cone-shaped and flat-bottom filters allow you some level of experimentation.

Removable Water Tank

Another convenient feature is the removable, 60-ounce (1.8-liter) water tank. It’s made of BPA-free plastic and lifts straight up for effortless filling.

Notably, this reservoir’s capacity hits the sweet spot for daily brewing. Also, the tight fit into the body of the machine prevents frustrating leaks as the machine brews.

This reservoir also makes brewing and maintenance stress-free. It has a wide opening for effortless filling and cleaning. In addition, convenient water level indicators and a built-in water filter make brewing a joy.

Glass Carafe With Warming Plate

If you’ve been here long enough, you’ll know that I’m cheering for Team Thermal Carafes all the way. That said, Breville went with a stunning borosilicate glass design here.

The Luxe Brewer’s heat retention and coffee preservation will never match that of the best coffee makers with thermal carafes. But if you regularly drain your pot within 30-120 minutes of brewing, you’re safe. Plus, the convenient 1 to 12-cup capacity is perfect whether you’re brewing for yourself or a crowd.

So far, the reviews I’ve come across are positive. Users say the gentle warming plate maintains the marketed serving temperature of 175 degrees Fahrenheit (80 degrees Celsius) for up to 6 hours. And the pour spout delivers clean, drip-free service.

I’m yet to test this out, but it sounds pretty impressive!

Customizable Brewing Controls

Here’s where coffee nerds like me get excited. And the Breville Luxe Brewer doesn’t disappoint! It boasts some of the best customization options I’ve seen in a while.

Through the “My Brew” setting, you can fine-tune brewing parameters like:

  • Bloom time: the duration of the bloom phase, which enables you to degas your coffee before full extraction

  • Bloom volume: the initial amount of water used to gently saturate your grounds before full extraction

  • Flow rate: the speed at which water flows through the coffee bed, influencing your coffee’s final body

  • Brew temperature: the temperature at which your coffee brews, influencing the flavor of your final cup

In essence, the Luxe Brewer allows you to make coffee your way and provides excellent pour-over coffee simulation. What’s more, it saves your preferences for future use, which to me, is the pinnacle of convenience!

Cold Brew Functionality

If there’s another feature that stands out for me in this Breville Luxe Brewer review, it’s the cold brew function. This uses room temperature water and timed steeping to deliver a supposedly decent cold coffee concentrate.

Unlike other cold brew makers, this one automates the filtration and steeping. It’ll filter your coffee after the set brew time, guaranteeing an effortless, hands-off approach.

Notably, you may adjust the brew time from 30 minutes up to 24 hours. This is important for optimal extraction, especially if you’re brewing with different beans and roast profiles. Ultimately, it seems like this machine could actually be able to make real cold brew!

How Does the Breville Luxe Perform, From Cold Brew to Gold Standard?

Breville invested in making this a versatile brewer. Apart from brewing anywhere from 1 to 12 cups, it also offers customizable controls and brew modes.

Unlike with cheaper machines, each mode promises distinct but well-extracted coffee. Notably, this level of sophistication is rare in automatic brewers at this price point.

My Brew

Breville Luxe Brewer Brew

The “My Brew” mode is all about customization. As mentioned, it allows you to fine-tune brew temperatures, flow rates, bloom times and bloom volumes.

But why does this matter? It matters because you’ll need to adjust these parameters every time you brew with different coffee beans and coffee roast profiles. Here, the machine does everything for you.

If you regularly brew with single-origin coffee or lighter roasts, set a longer brew time and higher brew temperature to preserve the beans’ delicate characteristics.

Conversely, if you prefer bolder coffee or darker roasts, a shorter extraction time and lower temperature prevent overwhelming flavor notes. Blooming your coffee before brewing will also prevent any harsh, bitter notes.

Gold Cup

“Gold Cup” mode leverages SCA-recommended coffee-to-water ratios and extraction percentages. Adhering to these guidelines, brew temperatures range from 195 to 205 degrees Fahrenheit (90 to 96 degrees Celsius) and timing from 4 to 8 minutes.

This one-touch pre-programmed mode ensures controlled saturation for textbook specialty coffee extraction. Crucially, it does so across multiple bean origins.

Users have reported balanced cups using this mode. The coffee had clear flavor definition, proper acidity levels and a full-bodied mouthfeel. In my opinion, this alone justifies this machine’s premium price tag.

Cold Brew & Other Presets

“Cold Brew” mode does exactly what it implies — brews cold coffee. The differentiator here is that it does so automatically.

Running a 30-minute extraction cycle at room temperature should give you smooth, low-acid coffee. However, you can run a 24-hour steep time if you so choose.

Users have reported that the built-in filtration system helps deliver a cleaner cup, an improvement on the gritty sediment that plagues DIY setups. For convenience and consistency, that’s impressive at this price point.

The Luxe Brew also has other notable presets. “Fast Brew,” “Single-Serve” and “Strong Brew” modes allow for faster, single-portion and bolder brewing. The “Single-Serve” mode is particularly impressive. It automatically detects when you’re brewing directly into coffee or travel mugs, and adjusts the settings accordingly.

How Is the Design, Build Quality and Usability of the Breville Luxe?

I haven’t tested the Luxe Brewer yet, so I can’t comment on its usability. However, its design is fantastic. The entire Breville Luxe line is stylish, user-friendly and durable. Many users praise the premium materials, thoughtful design and broad customization.

Breville Luxe Brewer Design

Basically, Breville nailed the aesthetics with this one. The brand’s famous engineering really shows. Robust stainless components, well-placed plastic accents and precision-fitted borosilicate glass make for a showstopper.

The footprint is large, though. So, you’ll need to have the clearance and space for it in your kitchen.

In addition to the brushed stainless steel finish, Breville offers other attractive colors. These include Black Truffle, Sea Salt, Olive Tapenade and Damson Blue. Although eye-catching, they’re neutral enough to match a wide range of decor.

To add to this, Breville is generous with the accessories. They throw in a mesh filter basket, a pack of filter papers, a coffee scoop, water hardness test strips, a quick-start guide and user manual.

Despite boasting sophisticated brewing tech, the controls are refreshingly intuitive. The 60-ounce (1.8-liter) capacity also hits the sweet spot when brewing for a crowd. Additionally, multiple brewing modes let you experiment without intimidation.

Best of all? Maintenance should be simple. Unlike similar coffee makers like the OXO 8-cup brewer, the removable components on this coffee maker make cleaning effortless.

Is the Breville Luxe Brewer’s Glass Carafe a Pro or a Con?

I wouldn’t say it’s a con per se. It looks gorgeous and, importantly, lets you watch the brewing magic. Plus, if you drink your coffee within two hours of brewing, this glass carafe does the job. For visual appeal and immediate serving, it’s hard to beat.

Still, the Breville Luxe Brewer With Thermal Carafe offers significantly better value. While you lose the visual brewing theater, it maintains your coffee at 150 degrees Fahrenheit (65 degrees Celsius). And it does so for up to four hours. This means a late morning cup will taste as fresh as an afternoon pour. To add to this, there’ll be no risk of bitter, overcooked flavors.

Ultimately, the Breville Luxe Brewer Glass looks stunning and is more affordable. However, the thermal version guarantees better coffee preservation. Unless visual appeal trumps practical performance for you, you’re better off springing for the $349.95 thermal model instead.

Cleaning Your Breville Luxe Brewer

Cleaning this machine should be straightforward, given its removable components. Daily, rinse the carafe and filter basket, and wipe down the exterior with a damp microfiber cloth. Also, empty the water reservoir and refill it with filtered water. Don’t forget to check for and clean any spent coffee grounds or oil residue around the brew basket.

Breville Luxe Brewer Water Tank

Weekly, it’ll need more of a deep clean. Wash all removable parts in warm, soapy water and clean the water reservoir thoroughly. Additionally, wipe any accessible internal components with a clean cloth. Finally, run a water-only cycle to flush the entire system.

Monthly cleaning typically means descaling. Breville advises doing so every month or after every 40-60 brew cycles, depending on the water hardness in your area.

Use a Breville descaling solution or a 50% white vinegar solution to keep mineral buildup issues at a minimum. I also recommend always brewing with filtered water to extend the lifespan of your machine.

Breville Luxe vs Other Coffee Makers: Comparison

Now, let’s tackle an essential part of this Breville Luxe Brewer review: how does it stack up against similar SCA-certified coffee makers? I’ve previously tested the Breville Precision Coffee Maker and the Technivorm Moccamaster (a Coffeeness favorite), so let’s take a quick look:

Breville Luxe Brewer vs Breville Precision Coffee Maker

Sage The Precision Brewer Kaffeemaschine Arne

To me, the Luxe Brewer is the Breville Precision Brewer on steroids. Both machines are on par when it comes to build quality and UI. They boast sophisticated features like bloom timing and volume control, and precise flow rate adjustments.

However, the Luxe Brewer trumps the Breville Precision on style and user friendliness. It has a removable water tank (the Precision doesn’t), a streamlined interface and more custom brew settings. And while the Luxe has fewer brew modes (there’s no “Over-Ice” setting, for example), itcondenses most of these into the Custom brew mode. Plus, it adds cold brew functionality.

All these extra features explain the Precision’s lower $324.46 price tag. I’d opt for it if you’re budget-conscious and love experimenting with more brew modes. In contrast, pick the Luxe if you want the same premium results with minimal effort.

Breville Luxe vs. Technivorm Moccamaster: A Head-to-Head Battle

Moccamaster Kaffeemaschine Deckel Wasserbehaelter Schliessen

The Technivorm Moccamaster KBGV Select is the result of over 50 years of Dutch engineering perfection. Firstly, it’s handmade. Secondly, it has core copper heating elements that deliver bulletproof reliability.

Curiously, the Moccamaster’s minimalist design feels almost agricultural compared to the Luxe Brewer’s modern aesthetic. But this simplicity translates to indestructible brewing performance that has lasted decades!

As for materials, I favor the Moccamaster — for now. Why? I’ve tested the superior metal components, and they stand up to scrutiny. This, despite the more affordable $280.00 asking price.

It’s in the user experience where these machines diverge dramatically. The Moccamaster has one perfect brewing mode, which means no learning curve. On the other hand, the Luxe Brewer offers multiple options. And it includes cold brew functionality. With it, however, you’ll need you to make more brewing selection decisions.

The Verdict: Is the Breville Luxe Brewer Right for You?

Top quality drip machine

Breville Luxe Brewer

An SCA-certified masterpiece!

Superb design

SCA-certified brewer

Tons of customizable settings

High-quality build

Rather expensive

After this first-look Breville Luxe Brewer review, I can say that this coffee maker seems to deliver. The build quality is substantial. In addition, the various modes and controls and SCA certification qualify its brewing credentials. The PID temperature control alone, common in the best espresso machines, more than justifies the price tag.

For busy coffee lovers, it delivers barista-quality results without the effort. I especially love the one-touch functionality and dual-filter brewing.

However, the glass carafe remains my biggest reservation. Unless you’re sure you’ll drink your fresh-brewed coffee within 2 hours, that is. If not, the $30 premium on the thermal carafe version is worth it for the improved taste preservation and heat retention.

All in all, this automatic brewer is impressive and definitely an upgrade from previous Breville models. What’s more, it’ll easily replace your daily coffee shop habit. Not to mention save you money in the long run.

Breville Luxe Brewer FAQ

If you’re looking for a durable, user-friendly Breville home coffee maker, I recommend the Breville Luxe Brewer. It has one-touch brewing, customizable settings, many brew modes, dual-filter brewing and pre-infusion. It also has the all-important SCA certification for Gold Cup coffee.

The Breville Luxe Brewer is well-designed and durable. With the proper use, care and maintenance, it should last you 5-7 years. Furthermore, the 2-year warranty covers manufacturing defects and Breville has a good reputation for parts availability.

First, check your warranty to see if it covers your brewer. If covered, contact Breville and ask them for a prepaid shipping label for you to send the machine to their repair center. If it’s not covered, visit Breville’s website to find an authorized service center near you.

This machine comes with flat-bottom and cone-shaped filter baskets. Use round flat-bottom or No. 4 cone filters. I recommend paper filters for cleaner cups or permanent mesh filters for fuller-bodied coffee (albeit with some sediment).

Yes, the BPA-free plastic water reservoir is top-rack dishwasher safe. However, hand washing is gentler and best for maintaining a clear appearance over time.

A burr grinder is essential for consistent results. The Baratza Encore ($139) is an excellent entry-level option. Alternatively, the Baratza Virtuoso+ ($215) offers more precision.

The Luxe Brewer achieves 90-95% of the quality of a barista-level manual pour-over. Due to automation, it offers more convenience and consistency.

No, this is a drip coffee maker. It cannot generate the 9-bar pressure required for true espresso.
