Overview: Dr Coffee F11 Review
Dr. Coffee specializes in high-performance super-automatic espresso machines. In recent years, this Chinese brand has made waves Down Under and across Asia. I thought it was time for American coffee lovers to get in on the action.
Apart from the Dr Coffee F11 Big Plus, other notable super-automatics from the brand include the C11L Coffee Maker and . There’s also the H1 Bean-to-Cup Machine with a steam wand attachment.
While this brand might be new to us here at Coffeeness, at first glance, it combines user-friendly tech, versatility, large-scale brewing and qualityvery well. It also emphasizes intuitive, one-touch brewing and interactive operation.
Dr Coffee F11 First Impressions
At the heart of the F11 is a proprietary brewing system. This, Dr Coffee claims, ensures consistent extraction, and hence, consistently excellent coffee. Additionally, this machine leverages high/low temperature and pressure brewing. As a result it can tackle the full spectrum of drink options from espresso to pour-over-style brews.
Courtesy of the massive bean hopper and water tank, this machine offers comprehensive, large-capacity brewing solutions. And by large, I mean up to 100 cups daily! In addition, the integrated milk system froths directly into your cup for hassle-free milky coffees.
Coffee connoisseurs will particularly appreciate the built-in ceramic flat-burr grinder. Being ceramic, it lasts longer and preserves your coffee’s flavor. In addition, it has 9 grind size options, allowing for precise control over your coffee’s texture and final flavor.
However, the F11 doesn’t come cheap. At a hefty $2,299.99, the price may not make sense for everyone. I would recommend this champ for a small office or coffee business. At home? Not unless you have a particularly large family.
Is it time to upgrade our super-automatics coffee game with the Dr Coffee F11 Big Plus Super? That’s what I aim to find out with this Dr Coffee F11 review.
Dr Coffee F11 Features
How does this espresso machine measure up when it comes to features and functionality? After all, Dr Coffee touts hyper-functionality and advanced coffee tech as their main selling points. Let’s take a closer look.
Size and Design
The F11 Big Plus Super boasts a sleek, modern design. It features a color touchscreen display and adjustable, dual-spout coffee outlet. Below the coffee outlet is a large stainless steel drip tray with a 52-ounce (1.5-liter) capacity. No need to worry about overflow between brewing sessions.
To the right of the machine, an integrated milk system froths directly into your coffee cup. To the left, is a generous 270-ounce (8-liter) water tank for convenience. Atop the machine, sits a massive coffee bean hopper connected to ceramic flat burr grinder. All these components ensure rapid bean-to-cup deployment for multiple brew sessions without the need for constant refills.
A huge, in-your-face machine, the Dr Coffee F11 is a vision in Piano-Black (it also comes in Silver). Despite its mostly plastic construction, this professional-grade espresso machine is quite sturdy, boasting high-quality stainless steel components. Clocking in at 37.5 pounds (17 kilograms), it’s certainly hefty enough for heavy-duty brewing.
As such, it should fit comfortably on most office and coffee shop counters. However, the jury’s out on standard home kitchen countertops and under-cabinet spaces. To be sure, you’ll want to take accurate measurements before you buy.
User Interface
One of the most stand-out features of this Dr Coffee F11 review is the one-touch digital screen operation. This machine’s 7-inch (17-centimeter) LCD touchscreen is intuitive, interactive and best of all, fingerprint-proof. The emphasis here is on effortless brewing.
To this end, it offers an impressive carousel of 24 drink options, laid out in self-explanatory drink icons. Popular choices include espressos, cappuccinos, lungos and lattes. It also has options like flat whites, cafe crema and drip-style coffee.
This touchscreen enables you to program your desired user profiles and settings. Set and save coffee strengths, drink volumes, brew temperatures and milk foam preferences. Crucially, it gives real-time feedback on brewing, and also auto-prompts on cleaning, descaling and refilling.
You may also create multiple password-enabled user profiles and integrate mobile payment options. Mobile payments (similar to Cash app and Venmo) are big in Asia and Africa, so this makes sense. Besides, this feature is useful in a commercial setting where several baristas use the machine.
In addition, you can program in your preferred language, time/date settings, water hardness levels, maintenance prompts and more.
In short, the F11 Big Plus Super’s user interface does everything for you. It combines sophisticated tech with ease of use, for the ultimate in speed and convenience.
Ceramic Grinder
Another must-mention in this Dr Coffee F11 review is the ceramic flat burr grinder. Ceramic coffee grinders are durable, non-corrosive and don’t heat up during operation. This not only ensures consistency but also preserves your coffee’s aromatic compounds and oils. In other words, your coffee’s flavor.
Crucially, flat burr espresso grinders produce uniform particle sizes, ideal for espresso brewing. Plus, ceramic grinders are much quieter than the steel variety.
The F11 grinder has an integrated 42-ounce (1.2-kilogram) bean hopper and an impressive nine grind settings. These range from fine (espresso) to coarse (drip and pour-over-style). As such, you can customize different coffee types and brewing methods.
Crucially, this grinder grinds fresh for each brew. It features a dose-by-time mechanism that ensures the machine grinds just the amount needed per brew. Then, it quickly feeds this coffee into the brew group, reducing its exposure to oxidation and flavor loss. Overall, it’s a very well-thought-out design!
Proprietary Brewing System
Like the Jura GIGA 10, it’s no surprise that this large coffee machine has a large brewing unit. With a 16-gram capacity, it can brew up to 16 ounces (450 milliliters) of coffee per brew.
Given its 19-bar pressure pump, you can expect efficient extraction over a longer period minus the breakdowns. And the thermoblock heats water rapidly, cutting down wait times in between brews.
Crucially, the F11s unique brewing system maintains the proper extraction pressure throughout brewing. What does this mean? For one, a more thorough and even espresso and coffee extraction. And the result? Coffee with a fuller body and preserved nuanced flavor profiles, every time.
This system also features high/low brewing capabilities. Again, what does this mean? Well, if you’re brewing espresso, the system will automatically pick a high-temperature and pressure to extract coffee well in as little time as possible. Conversely, if you’re in the mood for a drip or pour-over-style brew, the F11 will automatically lower the temperature and pressure to mimic this manual style.
Another advantage I must point out in this Dr Coffee F11 review is this machine’s capacity to brew multiple drinks at once. This means less time between brews when making successive drinks. Consequently, by reducing the frequency of brewing cycles, (for the same volume of coffee), the system experiences less wear.
While this large-capacity system offers many advantages, it also means a larger footprint. However, this trade-off is worthwhile if you regularly serve a crowd.
Milk Foam
Ahhh, milk foam, what would some of us caffeine lovers do without it? Luckily, the F11’s milk frother elevates this machine from a standard coffee maker to a fully fledged beverage station.
Its one-touch operation, integrated into the touchscreen, ensures seamless milky coffee preparation. This machine also has a generous 67-ounce (2-liter) milk container. No messy milk-crusted steam wands and milk pitchers, here!
On brewing, the system draws and steams milk directly from this container to the coffee outlet, and into your cup. It keeps milk at optimal temperatures throughout the frothing process for the best flavor and texture. And seeing as you can refrigerate the leftover milk, it minimizes waste.
Crucially, this system is compatible with various types of milk, including full-fat, skim and non-dairy. Plus, it’s doubly quick, heating milk to an impressive 140-158 degrees Fahrenheit (60-70 degrees Celsius).
You may also adjust the air intake for varying foam consistencies. Opt for light, airy foam for cappuccinos and macchiatos. On the flip side, whip up denser, silkier milk for lattes and flat whites. And as it also offers cold milk frothing for iced coffees, you won’t suffer a loss of quality.
Conveniently, this system auto-prompts you whenever milk needs refilling. And while it has an automatic rinse cycle, the milk container and frothing components are removable for deep cleaning.
Specialty Drinks
Another fun pro of this Dr Coffee F11 review is the specialty coffee chops. However, it’s worth noting that the F11 is a super-automatic. That means the coffee will be nowhere near an artisanal, next-level Japanese-style brew. After all, super-automatics promote convenience, efficiency and consistency.
For those seeking variety and ease of use, this machine is a good choice. First, there’s espresso. The F11 pulls espresso shots, customizing them for ristretto and lungo. By simply adding hot water to the espresso, it gives you an americano.
When it comes to milky coffees, this is where this super-automatic really shines through. It brews everything from the barista’s favorite latte macchiato, to flat whites and cappuccinos. All while customizing the milk and foam options for each coffee.
But it doesn’t stop there. By using a longer, controlled water flow and lower temperature, it can mimic a drip or pour-over brew.
And the beauty of all this? You can make many of these drink selections at the touch of a button!
Water Tank
The Dr Coffee F11 Big Plus Super water reservoir is all about thoughtful design. While it might seem like any ol’ water tank, its features contribute to this machine’s success.
The large 270-ounce (8-liter) capacity minimizes refills during long brew sessions. This makes this machine the perfect choice for high-volume situations. In addition, its BPA-free plastic construction means you may use any coffee water you want with it. Just make sure it’s clean, and preferably filtered. You may also purchase a Dr Coffee or other water filter.
Crucially, the large opening and ergonomic design make this reservoir easy to refill and clean. Also, the precision fit and lock mechanism prevent pesky leaks and, thus, unsafe brewing.
One feature I love about this tank is the smart integration. Besides auto-prompting on water levels, the tank works with the machine to prompt on auto-cleaning and descaling.
All you need to do is press a button and the tank supplies the water needed to clean all dirty components. Clearly, less is more with this water reservoir!
How to Use the Dr Coffee F11
A crucial part of this Dr Coffee F11 review is learning how to use this espresso machine. After you’ve unboxed and cleaned it, fill the water tank with fresh, cold water and the bean hopper with premium coffee beans.
Now, power up the machine. Then, consulting your user manual, follow the on-screen prompts to set and save your preferences.
To make your first coffee, place a preheated coffee cup under the coffee outlet, before selecting your desired beverage on the touchscreen. You may choose from a wide range of espresso-based black coffees, including lungos, long blacks and americanos. Then, simply press the start button to begin brewing.
As it happens, the F11 Big Plus Super allows you to customize your drinks selections. Adjust for factors like coffee strength, brewing temperature and volume, and save these custom settings for future brews.
You may also adjust for grind size. Fine grinds are typical for espresso, while coarse grinds suit longer, pour-over-style drinks.
Fancy a milky coffee? This machine got you covered. Fill the milk container with cold dairy or non-dairy milk. Then, connect the milk tube to the container and the machine’s milk spout before placing your heated coffee cup under the outlet.

Now, select your milk-based drink, and press start. The machine will automatically froth milk into your coffee cup, and then coffee.
For programmable functions, access the machine’s program settings through the touchscreen. An example is the energy-saving mode. This feature reduces power consumption during idle periods. I think it’s a neat feature given this coffee machine’s capacity for long brewing sessions. Why not save power while you’re at it, eh?
Dr Coffee F11 Cleaning
As part of your investment’s maintenance, you need to adhere to a proper cleaning routine. Yes, this is a super-automatic, and yes, it has a self-clean function. However, daily cleaning is a must-do.
After every brew session, empty, wash, rinse and dry the drip tray and coffee grounds container. Remember, to try and repurpose used coffee grounds rather than throw them in the trash.
Then, referring to your user manual, run the automatic milk cleaning cycle. Disassemble, wash and rinse all removable parts. Also, wipe down the milk outlet with a clean, damp cloth.
Lastly, wipe down the machine’s exterior using a damp cloth. Pay special attention to the control panel and touchscreen display.
For deeper cleaning consult your user manual. Components that may need weekly cleans include the brew group, milk frothing system, coffee bean hopper and grinder.
As for descaling, do it monthly. You may use Dr Coffee’s descaling solution, a homemade vinegar solution or buy one from Amazon. This process should take you about 20-30 minutes. However, whatever you do, do not use the descaling agent to clean the water reservoir.
Remember, regular cleaning isn’t just for show. It not only prevents damaging mineral build-up but also keeps your coffee tasting its best!
