Frappe

Thirty five countries name frappe as their favorite cold coffee type. It’s a French coffee drink that’s made of espresso shots mixed with cold water, cold milk, sugar and ice cubes. Instead of being stirred, the mixture is beaten, shaken or blended to combine the ingredients and produce a delicious, frothy and icy drink. The trick is to beat it until the ice is crushed into slushy and foam forms.

Once the drink is ready, it is served in a tall glass with a whipped cream layer and sweet syrup drizzled on top. There are multiple variations of frappe too, with some coffee drinkers using instant coffee instead of straight espresso shots. Another variation that’s popular in Bulgaria uses soda instead of water.

Coffee drinkers love frappes for their creamy, luscious and smooth consistency. It’s best enjoyed immediately after it’s made. Some people consider frappes and Frappuccinos to be the same thing, but that’s not true. Frappuccino is literally an iced cappuccino. We’ll talk more about it a little later on.

Iced Vanilla Latte

Iced vanilla lattes are popular coffee drinks made by mixing milk, espresso and vanilla syrup. The drink is then served over ice cubes. Emerging second on our list, iced vanilla lattes are loved in 14 countries across the globe. These include Australia, Bulgaria, Canada, Luxembourg, Iceland, New Zealand, the U.S. and the U.K.

The Italian word “latte” translates to “milk” in English. This means that any latte drink should include milk in order to use that name. Though the milk in a hot latte is frothed to guarantee the latte consistency and taste, iced latte milk isn’t. It is added as is.

Few people will take a hot coffee drink when temperatures are soaring outside. Iced vanilla lattes offer a sweet alternative while still providing the desired kick.

Frappuccino

As mentioned earlier, a Frappuccino is not a frappe. It is made using strong brewed coffee to achieve its bold flavor. It is then blended with milk, sweeteners, ice, syrups, sugar and any other flavor of choice. Whipped cream and chocolate shavings are also added as a delicious garnishing accent at the top.

Consequently, a Frappuccino is sweeter than a frappe and packs more calories. But hey, isn’t it good to enjoy the sweeter side of life from time to time? Frappuccinos are popular in 12 countries including Belgium, Chile, Egypt, Jamaica, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco and Trinidad and Tobago.

People love Frappuccinos because they’re sweet (of course) and come in many different flavors. In other words, there’s something for everyone, whether you love a nutty, chocolatey or minty taste to your drink. Mocha, caramel and java chip Frappuccinos are a few popular variations.

Cold Brew

Cold brew coffee took fourth place on our list and is loved in eight countries across the globe. Ironically, this cold coffee drink doesn’t live up to its name in terms of how it’s made. Allow us to explain. Brewing refers to mixing coarse ground coffee with boiling water. However, cold brew is made by steeping coffee grounds in cold water for 12-24 hours.

Making cold brew in a mason jar

It should therefore be called cold infusion or cold steeped coffee. But that doesn’t sound as catchy as cold brew, so the name remains. This infusion allows the coffee grounds to slowly release their flavor, aroma and essential oils, resulting in an aromatic, chocolatey, low-acidity flavor profile.

Cold brew is the preferred coffee drink in countries like Brazil, the Czech Republic, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Poland, Norway and Singapore. Surprisingly, this coffee beverage is also popular in Turkey, outdoing the famous Turkish coffee on its home ground.

Spanish Latte

The Spanish latte rounds up our list of the top five most loved iced coffees globally. It’s a delicious, creamy drink made of an espresso shot mixed with sweetened condensed milk and milk. It is popular in six countries, including Malaysia, Oman, Singapore, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

People love Spanish lattes because although they’re sweeter than regular lattes, but aren’t as sweet as the common flavored lattes. For coffee lovers who prefer additional body to their Spanish latte, using textured milk is a good option.

Coffee culture is huge in the Spanish-speaking world. Therefore, Spanish coffee utilizes high-quality coffee beans to bring out the rich taste we all love. The Spanish latte is famous for the balance it offers. This results from the ingredient ratio used; one part freshly ground beans, one part condensed milk and one part milk.

Methodology & Sources

Our team considered various chilled coffee types and conducted an in-depth analysis of Google search data in both English and various native languages. We then identified the most popular chilled coffee drink in each country, compiled results into a comprehensive list, and analyzed frequency to determine overall popularity.
