In today's Keurig Standalone Frother review I'll be looking at the model that won the title of "Best for Almond Milk" in my guide to the best milk frothers. I'll give you a hint, though – this baby isn't just ideal for fans of non-dairy milk. As it happens, it'll do a fine job with cow juice too.

Anyway, I bought the Keurig Standalone Frother to test out for you and I’m excited to share my findings. So, without further ado, let’s get right to it!

Keurig Standalone Frother Design and Features

As milk frothers go, the Keurig Standalone is about as compact as you could want. Standing just 8 inches (20.3 centimeters) tall, this nifty device certainly won’t take up much space in your kitchen.

With that said, you might want to keep it out on display. I mean, the Keurig Standalone Frother is definitely eye-catching. Featuring a sleek, modern silhouette, this milk frother looks pretty darn cool.

I also appreciate the build quality of the thing. Sure, there’s an abundance of plastic in the Keurig’s construction, but it feels very solid and durable. Plus, the ribbed body not only adds to the overall aesthetic but helps you keep a good grip when you’re pouring milk foam.

Incidentally, I should point out that the Keurig Standalone Frother’s $61.99 asking price makes it extremely good value for money. With that in mind, I’d say this is a great option for those who can’t afford a super automatic espresso machine.

In terms of functions, there’s a minimalist user interface with buttons for hot foam and cold foam. So, if you’re looking for adjustable temperature and foam settings you might be better off looking elsewhere. However, if simplicity and ease of use are your main priorities, the Keurig Standalone Frother will definitely deliver.

While the Keurig shares many of the same design elements of other milk frothers, one thing that stood out to me was the tapered spout. This feature really helps when pouring, and it made me wonder why it’s often absent from other models.

Finally, I will say that the limited 6-ounce (177-milliliter) capacity of this frother might be a turn-off for some folks. That said, it’s ideal for those who enjoy an espresso macchiato or a cafe au lait.

Keurig Standalone Frother in Use

Setting up the Keurig Standalone Frother was a piece of cake. Once I’d unboxed the thing and given it a good cleaning, it was just a case of pouring in almond milk and pressing the hot froth button.

By the way, there are clearly marked level markers inside, so you don’t have to worry about overflow. I’d decided to make an almond milk cappuccino, and I have to say the results were quite impressive. Sure, you’ll never get the kind of consistency you’d expect from full-fat milk, but the Keurig did achieve a decent level of foam.

One thing I noticed was how quiet the Keurig Standalone Frother is during operation. Seriously, it makes no sound whatsoever! In fact, I would have appreciated a little beep to let me know it was done.

Next, I set about making a latte using whole milk. Again, the Keurig went about its business without making a sound, and when it was done I was rewarded with rich, thick and creamy milk foam.

While I certainly found the lip handy when it came to pouring milk onto my espresso, I struggled to maintain a homogenous blend of hot milk and foam. However, some vigorous swirling did the trick. Then again, you can pretty much forget about being able to create latte art with this milk frother – the froth is way too thick for that.

Cleaning

I’ve tested a ton of milk frothers and I have to say the Keurig has been the easiest to clean. All too often, I find stubborn milk residue at the bottom of the chamber after use, but experienced none of that with the Standalone Frother. Turns out, the non-stick coating really works for once!

Of course, you should thoroughly rinse the inside of the Keurig after each use, making sure to remove the whisk and rinse it off too. Oh, and don’t even think about putting this thing in the dishwasher. Rather, wash by hand and avoid submerging the frother in water.

Verdict: Keurig Standalone Frother

You guys know that I always prefer using the steam wand on a home espresso machine. However, for those with a moka pot or drip coffee maker, I can see how the Keurig Standalone Frother could be an attractive proposition.

It’s compact, affordable and straightforward, making it ideal for those who want a little fuss-free milk foam from time to time. And its solid construction, quiet operation and performance all impressed me during my testing.

Of course, I can’t end this review without mentioning that I can’t condone using this frother with a Keurig pod machine. After all, coffee capsules need to be eliminated at all costs!

I hope you’ve enjoyed my Keurig Standalone Frother review. Please feel free to express your thoughts and opinions in the comments section!
