Based in Taiwan, 1Zpresso has been pumping out manual coffee grinders for almost 10 years. And when I say “pumping out,” I really mean it. Seriously, these guys seem intent on flooding the market with as many models as possible.

Still, don’t imagine that 1Zpresso skimps in the quality department. Quite the opposite – in my experience, a 1Zpresso hand grinder is built like a tank and features incredibly high-quality components. What’s more, these grinders are designed with ease of use and longevity in mind.

Like I said at the start of this best 1Zpresso grinder guide, sifting through the incredibly wide range of grinders on offer can be intimidating, if not a little tiring. However, you can be certain that there’s definitely a 1Zpresso hand grinder out there that’ll fit your needs. Whether you’re a pour-over nerd or an espresso freak, these guys have got you covered.

Why Buy a Manual Coffee Grinder?

Before we get into my best 1Zpresso grinder list, let’s take a moment to discuss the benefits of buying a manual coffee grinder.

First and foremost, you’re going to get way more bang for your buck. Seriously, some of the hand grinders on my list are capable of producing stunning levels of precision and consistency, and you’ll rarely have to pay more than a couple of hundred bucks for the privilege.

Now, I’m fully aware that’s still a chunk of change. However, you’d have to spend at least twice as much on an equally capable electric burr coffee grinder.

Another advantage to owning a manual coffee grinder is its size. Not only will it take up next to no space on your kitchen counter, you’ll be able to take it anywhere. That makes it ideal for those of you who are unable to imagine a camping trip without a quality cup of joe to start the day.

Of course, a hand grinder involves a little more physical labor than an electric grinder. But trust me, the internal mechanisms of manual coffee grinders have come a long way in recent years. In fact, you can expect to easily (and almost effortlessly) grind enough for a cup of coffee or shot of espresso in around 30 seconds.

The 6 Best 1Zpresso Grinders

1Zpresso J Ultra: Best for Espresso

I reviewed the 1Zpresso J Max in 2023 and was completely blown away. Then the manufacturer went and replaced the J Max with the 1Zpresso J Ultra, which I found kind of annoying. That said, the 1Zpresso J Ultra is essentially the same grinder, so my review is still relevant!

Costing $N/A, the J Ultra is the company’s flagship espresso grinder. Featuring a wonderful external grind adjustment ring and rugged metal housing, the 1Zpresso J Ultra offers a mind-boggling 450 grind settings, with just 8 microns of burr movement per click.

In other words, you’ll have no problems dialing in the perfect espresso with this incredible grinder.

Incidentally, the particle size consistency is extremely impressive across the grind size spectrum, making the J Ultra ideal for all preparation methods.

To be honest, it’s hard for me to find any faults with this grinder – I even love the 40-gram capacity magnetic catch cup. However, I will say that those with smaller hands may have a harder time getting a good grip on the thing.

1Zpreso K Ultra: Best for Pour Over

Like the aforementioned J Ultra, the 1Zpreso K Ultra is equipped with huge 48mm stainless steel burrs. However, these particular burrs have a special heptagonal shape

 Apparently, this shape has been used because the K Ultra is more geared toward pour over preparation. The manufacturer claims the heptagonal burrs will aid in producing a clean and bright cup profile.

Apart from that, the 1Zpresso K Ultra looks almost identical to the J Ultra, thanks to its stainless steel and aluminum alloy construction and external grind adjustment ring. You will have fewer grind settings with the K Ultra, but there are still over 100 to choose from, and the burrs move just 20 microns with each click. So, let’s just say you should be able to dial in your pour over recipe to perfection!

One thing I find strange about the 1Zpresso K Ultra is its asking price. Costing $259.00, it’s a good deal more expensive than the J Ultra. Then again, that’s still reasonable given the grinder’s build quality and performance.

1Zpresso Q Air: Best for Travel

As I mentioned earlier, pretty much any manual coffee grinder is great for travel. However, the 1Zpresso Q Air has been designed with extreme portability in mind. In fact, the manufacturer likes to promote the fact that this compact little grinder fits perfectly in an AeroPress plunger.

That’s kind of interesting, because I remember saying the same thing about the Porlex Mini during my review of the Japanese classic.

Anyway, costing just $69.00, the 1Zpresso Q Air is a very affordable travel companion that’ll serve you well if you’re a fan of French press, pour-over or AeroPress.

Sure, there are fairly limited grind size adjustments here, with just 30 options to choose from. However, I’d say that’s more than enough for a travel coffee grinder. What’s more, adjusting the grind is easy thanks to the chunky dial located under the burrs.

Finally, the 1Zpresso Q Air is available in a variety of eye-catching colors. The purple version, in particular, is sure to turn heads at the campsite!

1Zpresso X Ultra

Released in 2023 to replace the hugely successful X Pro, the 1Zpresso X Ultra arrived with the same magnetic catch cup and foldable handle as the J Ultra and K Ultra grinders.

Equipped with the manufacturer’s acclaimed 40mm heptagonal burr set, the 1Zpresso X Ultra is intended as a classic all-rounder that’ll deliver the goods for everything from espresso to cold brew. It also features the awesome external grind adjustment ring, making it super easy to switch between brew methods.

However, I have heard that some folks feel like the new burrs aren’t quite as impressive as those found in the X Ultra’s predecessor.

To be honest, I take such claims with a grain of salt, and I’m sure the 1Zpresso X Ultra will perform like a champ. With that said, I should really hope so, given its $169.00 asking price!

1Zpresso Q

Made from sturdy aluminum, the 1Zpresso Q is a little more rugged than the Q Air. Still, this slim and compact hand grinder is equally suitable for travel, and also fits into an AeroPress plunger.

Costing $109.00, the 1Zpresso Q offers exceptional value for money, given its high-quality design. Equipped with 40mm stainless steel burrs, the Q features an internal grind adjustment mechanism, with around 30 settings. There’s also a neat foldable handle which makes the grinder more stable when not in use.

While this isn’t the grinder for espresso enthusiasts, it’s more than capable of producing excellent results for most other coffee brewing methods. What’s more, thanks to the 1Zpresso Q’s slim design, it’s an excellent choice for those with smaller hands.

1Zpresso J

If you’re looking for a big, burly model that’ll make short work of grinding coffee beans for pour over, the 1Zpresso J is just the ticket.

Equipped with huge 48mm stainless steel conical burrs, the 1Zpresso J has been designed specifically for manual brewing. The J features an internal grind adjustment system, with 25 microns of burr movement per click.

Suffice to say, this isn’t going to be a great espresso grinder. However, its generous capacity and large burrs mean you can quickly and easily grind enough coffee for your Hario V60 or Chemex Ottomatic.

The 1Zpresso J costs just $139.00, which is a steal in my opinion. Especially given its super solid construction and cool foldable crank handle.

As promised at the start of this guide, I’m going to help you narrow your search by offering some advice on how to choose the best 1Zpresso grinder for your needs.

Your Budget

Unless you’re lucky enough to be made of money, how much you’re able to spend will be at the forefront of your mind. Fortunately, all the best 1Zpresso grinders are at the affordable end of the price spectrum.

With that said, some folks will feel that spending $200 or more on a hand coffee grinder is a little excessive. Then again, if you’re after a superb coffee grinder to pair with your prosumer espresso machine, you won’t find anything cheaper.

Ultimately, you can spend a lot less or a lot more than what you’ll shell out for a 1Zpresso coffee grinder. However, in my opinion, no other manufacturer offers such an impressive price-performance ratio.

Your Preferred Brewing Method

I could wax lyrical about the 1Zpresso J Ultra for days – it really is that special.

However, if you don’t own a home espresso machine it might be kind of a pointless purchase. Sure, it’ll also perform like a champ for other brewing methods, but you can spend a lot less money on something like the 1Zpresso J if you’re only going to be making drip coffee.

Likewise, if you’re a complete pour over nerd, you’d be way better off going with the 1Zpresso K Ultra, which has been designed and calibrated precisely for that brewing method.

Size and Design

At the risk of sounding redundant, any manual coffee grinder is going to be great for travel, camping and backpacking trips. That’s just the nature of the beast. With that said, some hand grinders are lighter and more compact than others – the 1Zpresso Q Air immediately springs to mind.

Another thing to bear in mind is that the bulkier the grinder, the more difficult it can be to hold on to as you’re grinding. So, it might be good to go with a slimmer model if your hands are on the smaller side.

Finally, consider whether or not features like a foldable crank handle, external adjustment ring and magnetic catch cup are important to you. Sure, special features like these will drive the price up a little, but not really by that much.

In general, 1Zpresso is fairly generous with the accessories it includes. For example, I’m pretty sure you’ll get a nice little cleaning brush with every purchase.

However, some of the more expensive models come with a bellows for blowing out any excess dust from inside the grinding chamber. What’s more, you’ll get a super snazzy hard travel case with models such as the 1Zpresso J Ultra and 1Zpresso K Ultra.
