Breville Oracle Dual Boiler Review: A First Look

Hi! My name is Arne. Having spent years working as a barista I'm now on a mission to bring more good coffee to the people. To that end, my team and I provide you with a broad knowledge base on the subject of coffee.

Clearly explained: Our review process

I’ve decided it’s high time I embarked on an initial Breville Oracle Dual Boiler review. After all, this brand new machine is the Australian manufacturer’s flagship model, its crown jewel.

Before going any further, I should point out that I haven’t yet had a chance to get my hands on this magnificent beast just yet. However, I plan on ordering one from my friends at Seattle Coffee Gear as soon as possible.

With all that said, I consider myself to be somewhat of a Breville aficionado, having tested out just about all of their semi-automatic espresso machines. So, you can trust me to give you a thorough inspection of all the Oracle Dual Boiler’s most notable features. OK, enough chitchat. Let’s get into it!

Breville Oracle Dual Boiler Review Overview

Launched in mid-2025, the awesome Breville Oracle Dual Boiler is the Aussie brands most ambitious and versatile espresso machine yet. And from what I can see so far, this baby is destined to land a place on my list of the best home espresso machines.

Taking its visual cue from the Oracle Touch, this incredibly sophisticated machine doesn’t look all that different on first inspection. However, look a little closer and you’ll see that the Oracle Dual Boiler includes a ton of exciting new features.

Breville Oracle Dual Boiler Overview

For starters, the Breville Oracle Dual Boiler espresso machine features a huge color touchscreen display, as well as an improved automatic dosing and tamping station and auto milk frother. What’s more, Breville has introduced an app that you can use in conjunction with the machine. Elsewhere, there’s an impressive grinder with premium Baratza burrs and 45 adjustment settings.

But it’s what’s going on under the hood that’s truly revolutionary. As you’ve already guessed, this powerful new Breville star is equipped with two boilers. However, the fun doesn’t stop there; the machine’s group head is also actively heated to help with thermal stability.

In terms of operation, Breville has pulled out all the stops. In saying that, I’m referring to the fact that there’s both an automatic mode and a manual mode. Plus, you’re able to tweak just about every setting under the sun as you’re working toward making the perfect espresso.

Of course, I’ll discuss all of this in detail a little later. For now though, you should know that the Oracle Dual Boiler will appeal to both beginners and seasoned baristas in equal measure. Seriously, it really is that cool.

Breville Oracle Dual Boiler Features

As we’ve already seen, there’s a lot to talk about with this machine. And at this point I should mention that it’ll set you back a whopping $2,999,95. So, let’s continue my initial Breville Oracle Dual Boiler review by digging deeper into the most exciting features to see what you’re getting for all that money.

Breville Oracle Dual Boiler Construction and Design

Breville Oracle Dual Boiler Size

Without a doubt, Breville has successfully created its own design language, and its espresso machines are instantly recognizable. I happen to appreciate the brand’s somewhat retro stylings, and the Oracle Dual Boiler follows suit with its stainless steel housing and gently curved lines. With a width of almost 18 inches (47 centimeters), and rising to almost 15 inches (38 centimeters), the Breville Oracle Dual Boiler is far from compact. Then again, this machine has an integrated grinder, so you won’t need extra space in your kitchen for an espresso grinder. I particularly appreciate the fact that the Oracle Dual Boiler makes it easy from a workflow perspective. There’s a dosing and grinding station on the right, a group head in the middle and an automatic steam wand to the right. Ultimately, this is very well laid out, and beginners shouldn’t struggle to get started.

Elsewhere, there’s a dedicated hot water spout for one-touch americanos, as well as a huge touchscreen display located front and center. Oh, and you can fill the (huge) 77-ounce (2.3-liter) water tank via a flip-up door at the front of the machine. Now that is thoughtful design in action!

Finally, Breville has equipped the machine with a generous drip tray, so you won’t have to empty the thing after every couple of espresso shots. Oh, and as with all the best Breville espresso machines, there’s plenty of room beneath the portafilter spouts for taller glasses and travel coffee mugs.

Triple Heating System

The name says it all: this is a dual boiler machine, with one for brewing espresso and a larger steam boiler. This, of course, means that you can pull a shot of espresso and steam milk for your latte at the same time. Trust me, that will rock your world if you’ve only ever used a single boiler machine.

As an extra bonus, Breville has installed a dedicated heater in the group head, which is a feature I first saw on the Oracle Jet. Again, this is a truly awesome feature, seeing as thermal stability across the board is so important for consistent shots.

Finally, the Oracle Dual Boiler is equipped with a digital PID controller, which not only helps maintain consistent temperature but also lets you adjust your brew temperature. This will be a real bonus if you like to lower the temperature for darker roasts and increase brewing temperature to bring out the best from your light roast freshly roasted coffee beans.

User Interface

Breville Oracle Dual Boiler Interface

Over the years, I’ve seen Breville consistently strive to improve the touchscreen interfaces on its espresso machines. For example, the screen on the Barista Touch Impress is light years ahead of the rather glitchy Barista Touch interface.

For the Oracle Dual Boiler, Breville has introduced its brand new Quad Core CPU, which promises a silky-smooth experience as you’re navigating the menus. Plus, the 5.7-inch (14.5-centimeter) display is bright and beautiful.

From my experience using Breville touchscreens, the menus will be extremely easy to navigate, and the drink-making process will be seamlessly intuitive. It’s simply a case of tapping on a drink icon before adjusting settings to your specifications and following the on-screen instructions. What’s more, Breville includes a variety of tutorials if you get stuck. Incidentally, the menu features 11 specialty drinks, with all the usual suspects in evidence, including a bunch of trendy drinks you’ll probably never make. Oh, and the dreaded babyccino is still on the menu.

Breville Oracle Dual Boiler Brewing Modes

Machines like the Barista Touch and Barista Touch Impress were designed to be as automated as possible, while still allowing you to mess with various settings. That’s certainly still the case with the Breville Oracle Dual Boiler; in auto mode you can tweak a few settings or simply let the machine take care of everything.

However, this time, the manufacturer has also included a dedicated manual mode.

You access this feature by swiping up on the screen, and all of a sudden you’re confronted by a black screen with a pressure gauge and other adjustable settings. From here, you can change the grinder to a time-based system rather than volume based. You can also adjust pre-infusion times as well as set a bloom function and switch between automatic volume-based extraction and manual extraction.

All in all, this serves to make the Oracle Dual boiler an incredibly versatile machine for those who want to take over and experiment with espresso. In my opinion, it’s a really smart move on Breville’s part.

Grinder & Auto Puck System

As you may already know, Breville is now the proud owner of Baratza, so the Oracle Dual Boiler is rocking premium Baratza stainless steel conical burrs. Not only that, its espresso-focused grinder features 45 adjustment settings, so you’ve got plenty of room to manoeuvre as you’re dialling in your shots.

Speaking of dialing in, Breville’s Auto Puck System takes care of grinding, dosing and tamping. All you need to do is insert the portafilter into the grinder cradle. Not only that, the machine keeps tabs on what’s happening with your shots, making the necessary adjustments for next time if needed.

While this level of automation is impressive, those looking for a more hands-on approach needn’t worry. You can turn off the Auto Dial-In System in the settings menu. Besides, in manual mode it isn’t even a thing.

Incidentally, you’re able to manually adjust the dose of ground coffee that arrives in your portafilter, although it’s a pain in the rear end to do so. As with the Oracle Touch, you need to disassemble the tamper and fiddle with tiny parts and Allen keys. Then again, I don’t think many of Breville’s target audience will ever feel the need to get this involved.

Portafilter

Seeing as this is such a premium double boiler machine, I’m not at all surprised to see that it comes with a professional 58mm portafilter. What’s more, this is a beefy portafilter with a double basket that holds up to 22 grams of coffee. I have to say that’s impressive, and bodes well for espresso quality from the Oracle Dual Boiler.

I can only hope that the manufacturer hasn’t included the weird plastic insert that I’ve found in other Breville espresso machine portafilters. Then again, it’s doubtful, seeing as the Oracle Dual BOiler only comes with single wall filter baskets.

Breville Steam Wand

Breville Oracle Dual Boiler Milk

Regular Coffeeness readers will know that I’ve always been extremely impressed by the automatic milk frothers on Breville machines. For example, the auto frother on the Breville Barista Touch Impress makes better milk foam for latte art than I can do by hand. Well, at least as good anyway!

The Breville Oracle Dual Boiler features the powerful Auto MilkQ system, and the four-hole steam wand is the real deal. From the touchscreen menu you can adjust “microfoam” settings in nine stages, as well as tweak the milk temperature for your flat white from 115 to 165 degrees Fahrenheit (46 to 74 degrees Celsius). Heck you can even calibrate the steam wand for oat milk, soy milk and more.

Of course, you can switch to manual steaming if you want, but the steam wand isn’t ball joint-mounted, so it might be a little difficult to steam milk by hand. Anyway, why bother when the automatic function is so darn good?

Breville+ Coffee App

As I mentioned earlier, Breville has developed the Breville+ Coffee App, which offers everything you’d expect, from remote starting to tutorials and status updates. Personally, I don’t care for coffee machine apps whatsoever. Still, the genie has been out of the bottle for quite some time, and many folks expect this level of connectivity these days.

Breville Oracle Dual Boiler Accessories

No one could ever accuse Breville of skimping on the goodie bag. And while the tamper included with some machines is a little suspect, that isn’t something you have to worry about with the Oracle Dual Boiler.

One thing I must draw attention to is the espresso knock box. Seriously, I can’t remember the last time I saw one of those included with an espresso machine. And seeing as it’s one of the best espresso accessories to have, I feel I simply must congratulate Breville for this!

Aside from that, you’ll get a stainless steel milk pitcher, cleaning products, brushes, tools and everything else you need to get started. Are you paying attention, Gaggia and Rancilio?!

How Do I Set up the Breville Oracle Dual Boiler?

Trust me when I tell you that setting up the Breville Oracle Dual Boiler for first use will be a piece of cake. Seriously, having tested out similar machines, I know that the Oracle Dual Boiler will hold your hand and guide you through every step of the process. Still, for the sake of this Breville Oracle Dual Boiler review, I’ll give you a brief overview of what to expect.

Upon unboxing, I’d recommend rinsing all removable parts, including the water tank and portafilter. Once that’s done, go ahead and install the water filter in the reservoir. Now it’s time to fire up the machine, whereupon you’ll be guided through the necessary steps for selecting language, water hardness and other initial settings. You’ll also have the option to let the machine guide you through various tutorials if you want.

Incidentally, the Breville Oracle Dual Boiler will take around 15 minutes to heat up, but once it’s good to go it’ll maintain a very consistent temperature for brewing and steaming. All that’s left to do now is load the bean hopper with your best espresso beans and start making drinks!

How Do I Clean the Breville Oracle Dual Boiler?

As with any home espresso machine, regular cleaning and maintenance will extend the Oracle Dual Boiler’s lifespan. Heck, it’ll also keep your coffee tasting as good as it should.

I’d recommend rinsing the filter baskets after every shot, and giving the dispersion screen in the group head a quick wipe down while you’re at it. In fact, it’s never a bad idea to quickly flush the brew group with water before and after each shot to remove any stray coffee grounds that might be hanging out.

At the end of each day’s use, remove the filter baskets from the portafilter and scrub them under warm running water. Also remember to empty the drip tray and give it a good rinse. After all, mold will grow in there very quickly if there’s coffee and water left for extended periods.

As you’ve probably guessed, the Oracle Dual Boiler will keep you abreast of any cleaning chores that need attending to. This includes running a descaling cycle, deep cleaning the group head and cleaning the Oracle Dual Boiler’s steam wand. You can ignore the machine when it asks for these to be taken care of, but I’d recommend following orders!

Breville Oracle Dual Boiler vs Other Breville Machines

I’ve already mentioned a couple of other machines in this Breville Oracle Dual Boiler review. Still, let’s take a closer look at how this model measures up in comparison to a couple of its siblings.

Breville Oracle Dual Boiler vs Oracle Jet

Sage Oracle Jet Cappuccino Fertig

I recently tested the in the Coffeeness kitchen, and it really impressed me with its features and performance. In many ways, I’d say the Oracle Jet is like the Oracle Dual Boiler’s younger sibling. After all, It shares many of the same features, including a 58mm portafilter, sophisticated touchscreen interface and awesome automatic milk steaming wand.

However, the Breville Oracle Dual Boiler is simply more powerful and way more versatile. I’d say that the Oracle Dual Boiler’s manual mode really elevates the machine to the next level. Plus, there’s the whole making coffee and milk foam simultaneously thing.

With all that said, the Oracle Jet is a good deal more affordable at $1,999.95. Plus let’s not forget that it is an absolutely fabulous home espresso machine.

Breville Oracle Dual Boiler vs Oracle Touch

Breville Oracle Touch Review

For the longest time, the Breville Oracle Touch was the Aussie manufacturer’s flagship model. However, that’s all changed with the introduction of the Oracle Dual Boiler.

Don’t get me wrong, the Oracle Touch is still a marvelous machine, thanks to its dual boilers, automatic steam wand and 58mm portafilter. However, it simply can’t compare to Breville’s latest offering in terms of up-to-the-minute technology, thoughtful features and advanced programming.

Costing almost as much at $2,799.95, I’d be surprised if the Oracle Touch lasts for much longer. Personally I’d drop an extra couple of hundred bucks any day of the week to get hold of the Oracle Dal Boiler.

Having reached the end of this first look Breville Oracle Dual Boiler review, I have to say I’m pretty blown away by what the manufacturer has pulled off here. I’m consistently impressed by the way Breville refuses to rest on its laurels, and this new machine proves that the Australian brand continues to maintain a cutting edge.

Honestly, I can’t think of another manufacturer that can compete with what Breville is doing. Many have tried, but none have matched the success of machines like the Barista Express and Barista Touch.

Sure, this is a very expensive Breville coffee machine. However, I’m of the opinion that this will be a huge success for the brand. Personally, I’d never seen an espresso machine that can appeal to both novice home baristas and seasoned pros in equal measure until this baby came along.

All that’s left for me to say is that I can’t wait to get hold of the Oracle Dual Boiler and put it through its paces. Something tells me that’s going to be a really good time!

Now it’s over to you. Have you bought the Breville Oracle Dual Boiler or are you considering it? Is there anything you’d like me to focus on when I test the machine? Let me know in the comments section!
