Background On Gevi
Established in 2017, Gevi is a relatively new name to the world of kitchen appliances. However, it’s definitely not an unknown one. The manufacturer has a reputation for pairing innovative designs with budget friendly price tags.
While you’ll find the Gevi name stamped on a lot of kitchen appliances, the manufacturer is most well known for its coffee makers and espresso machines. I won’t pretend that Gevi espresso machines are top of the line or that they’ll beat what your local barista hands you. However, they’re most definitely affordable and approachable.
Gevi 3 in 1 Espresso Machine – GECME020DE-UBuy Now on Amazon
If performance is your main priority, you’ll probably want to pay close attention to the Gevi 3 in 1 Espresso Machine for $599.99. I’ve named this the best performing Gevi espresso machine, and for good reason.
The dual heating system and PID intelligent temp control are ideal for ensuring hot water is at exactly the right temperature. Not only that, this awesome machine offers customizable pre infusion profiles.
Something else worth noting about this machine is its built in grinder. With cheaper manual machines, the coffee grinder is usually a separate purchase. However, that’s not the case here. If you’re familiar with espresso machines, you’ll know that using a good grinder is integral to achieving good results.
With that in mind, the Gevi 3 in 1 Espresso machine’s conical burr grinder has over 30 adjustment settings. On top of that, the customizable dose control feature means you can dial in your shots to perfection.
No surprise, you’ll also get the basic features you’d expect from a machine at this price. These include a drip tray, cup warming tray and a manual steam wand. However, it’s nice to see that Gevi also includes a stainless steel espresso tamper.
Speaking of that manual steam wand, it’s worth mentioning that it may be a little finicky. Especially when you’re trying to produce microfoam for latte art. That said, you’ll get a pretty fantastic cappuccino from this machine!.
- Integrated grinder
- Temperature control for precise extraction
- Several grind size settings
- Finicky steam wand
Gevi 20 Bar Espresso Machine Reviews
Gevi certainly likes to talk up the 20 bar pressure capabilities of its manual and semi automatic espresso machines. However, don’t be fooled into thinking that more pressure is always better. Remember – you only need 9 bars of pressure to make delicious espresso. So, a 9 or 15 bar machine is going to work just as well.
Gevi 20 Bar 2 in 1 Espresso Machine – GECME022-UBuy Now on Amazon
If there’s one thing Gevi is good at, it’s balancing features to price tags, and the Gevi 20 Bar 2 in 1 Espresso Machine for $129.89 does just that. The affordable price, paired with an assortment of great features, is exactly why this coffee maker has earned its spot as the best overall Gevi espresso machine.
The crowning feature of this home espresso machine? Its thermoblock heating system. This allows you to have good espresso in your hands without a ten minute preheating time. In comparison, most DeLonghi espresso machines – including ones that cost twice as much as this one – still take 15 minutes to preheat.
Unlike some coffee makers, this one includes a manual function. You can program the espresso and cappuccino maker for a single or double. However, you can also manually control how much espresso and hot water dispenses. That’s certainly a bonus if you’re only looking to make a half shot or want to double up on your espresso.
Since your steamed milk is going to have a different temperature setting than your espresso, it’s convenient that this machine includes two separate thermostats for intelligent temperature control.
While it may not make a difference functionally, I don’t want to skip over how stylish this machine looks. If you’re tired of the stainless steel finishes on most semi automatic machines, you’ll definitely appreciate the Gevi’s classic white design.
- Stylish design
- Heats up very quickly
- Intelligent temperature control
- Steam wand not the best
- Small drip tray
Gevi 20 Bar 2 in 1 Espresso Machine – GECME400BA-UBuy Now on Amazon
For $172.99, the Gevi 2 in 1 GECME400BA-U 20 Bar Espresso Machine is another coffee maker that includes thermoblock heating. You could have high-quality espresso in under a minute, which is definitely a perk on those mornings when you’re rushing out the door.
Something else worth noting is the LED display. You won’t find that on a lot of espresso machines in this price range, and it definitely leaves some of the guesswork out of navigating the machine. It’s certainly a step up from the basic knobs you’ll find on most budget manual espresso machines.
There’s a manual steam wand on this Gevi, which is ideal when creating microfoam for your espresso macchiato or cortado coffee. You’ll also get a 2 in 1 portafilter with filter baskets for single and double shots.
I won’t gloss over the double temperature control or the overheating protection either. Making good espresso and maintaining the long-term health of your machine means keeping a stable temperature. Fortunately, the overheating protection ensures it won’t get too hot.
Optimal coffee extraction and temperature control aside, let’s not forget about how compact this machine is. Some Gevi machines feel like they take up your entire countertop. However, the compact, slim design of this one keeps the 2 in 1 lightweight and portable. If you’re planning a trip in your RV, there’s no better road companion.
- Simple user interface
- Compact design
- Double temperature control
- Doesn’t come with a lot of accessories
Gevi 20 Bar Compact Professional Espresso Machine – GECME418E-UBuy Now on Amazon
Costing $109.99, the Gevi 20 Bar Compact Professional Espresso Machine may not look like much at first glance. Still, there’s more to this machine than you might think.
First, I want to touch on the design. Gevi advertises this as one of its most compact espresso machines. While it does have a slim design, it’s not as lightweight as it looks. With that said, lifting a 10 pound (4.5 kilogram) machine shouldn’t be a struggle for most people.
You’ll notice the pressure gauge on the front of this machine, which helps you precisely measure the amount of pressure you’re using during the extraction process. What’s more, the espresso buttons allow you to customize the volume of your single and double shots. While there isn’t a digital touchscreen, the user interface is pretty easy to use.
If you’re someone who frequently forgets about descaling or refilling the water tank, you’ll appreciate the low hot water and descaling warnings that pop up from time to time.
Of course, the thermoblock heating system is one of the biggest advantages of this machine, since you won’t have to wait long for your first espresso. However, I’d say the low pressure pre infusion function is the machine’s biggest attraction. After all, there aren’t many espresso machines at this price point with a pre infusion option.
- Thermoblock heating
- Warnings for low water and descaling
- Precise pressure gauge
- Spout prone to dripping
Gevi 15 Bar Espresso Machine Reviews
Now that I’ve covered my favorite 20 bar machines, let’s talk about coffee makers with 15 bars of pressure in my Gevi espresso machine reviews below.
Gevi 15 Bar Espresso Machine – GECME003D-UBuy Now on Amazon
Need something that’s going to hit all the bases without breaking the bank? You might want to check out the Gevi 15 Bar Pump Espresso Machine. Costing $118.32, this coffee maker includes all the basic features you’ll need at a surprisingly low price. That’s why this one earned the best budget title during my Gevi espresso machine reviews.
Even though it’s a budget machine, you’ll still get double temperature control. Plus, the stainless steel boiler system is definitely durable.
Unfortunately, the affordable price tag does mean you’ll have to give up thermoblock heating. If waiting ten minutes to preheat is going to be a dealbreaker for you, you might want to pass on this machine.
As far as the design goes, there’s definitely enough room to brew two cups at once with this machine. Still, weighing just under 11 pounds (5 kilograms), we’re looking at a compact espresso maker..
The manual steam wand isn’t a surprise here, but it does include a removable nozzle for easy cleaning. While this Gevi espresso machine lacks some of the fancy features you’ll find elsewhere, you can’t go wrong if you need something budget or beginner friendly.
- Easy to clean
- Stainless steel boiler
- Temperature control included
- No thermoblock
- Foam might be a little thick
Gevi 15 Bar Espresso Machine – GECME403-UBuy Now on Amazon
This Gevi GECME403-U 15 Bar Espresso Machine comes in at just $110.62 on Amazon. This is a great option for beginners, mostly because of the machine’s precise temperature control.
Figuring out the right temperature for espresso extraction or milk frothing can be a chore if you’re a beginner. However, with the big temperature gauge on the front of this machine, you’ll never have to guess.
While this machine may look a little bulky at first glance, it actually only weighs around 10 pounds(4.5 kilograms). Plus, it’s still slim enough to fit on most countertops. And for those of you who can never remember to empty the drip tray, the handy buoy will give you plenty of warning when it’s getting full.
- Easy to gauge temperature
- Large water tank
- Cup warmer
- No milk pitcher included
Gevi 15 Bar Espresso Machine – GECMD627BK-UBuy Now on Amazon
Last, but certainly not least, let’s talk about the Gevi 15 Bar Fast Heating Espresso Machine for $114.99. After all, my Gevi espresso machine reviews wouldn’t be complete without shining a light on this machine.
With a capacity of 42 ounces (1.2 liters), the water tank is a little smaller than I’d like. Still, as long as you’re not brewing for more than a couple of people, you probably won’t notice. The removable water tank does include a carrying handle, making it easy to remove for filling or cleaning.
What I really appreciate about this coffee machine is the thermoblock and temperature heating control system. You can knock several minutes off your wait time for that first espresso shot, and there’s a separate thermostat for milk foam.
As far as the user interface goes, this one isn’t any more complicated than what you’ll find on many espresso machines. It should be a breeze for beginners to make balanced espresso, work with steam pressure or create rich creamy milk froth.
In addition to the cup warmer, I don’t want to forget about the handy auto shutoff feature here. If you’re worried about wasting power, this coffee maker automatically shuts off after 25 minutes without use.
- Auto shutoff
- Easy to clean
- Fast heating
- Comes with limited accessories
How Do You Clean Gevi Espresso Machines?
No matter what kind of bells and whistles your espresso machine has, you won’t be able to escape regular cleaning and descaling. Even super automatic espresso machines require upkeep, and they’re known for doing everything at the touch of a button! So, in addition to my Gevi espresso machine reviews, here’s a general rundown for cleaning your manual or semi automatic machine.
Remember that your Gevi espresso machine manual will have specific directions for cleaning the milk wand, drip tray and other components. You should always refer to that first.
For components like the removable cup shelf, removable water tank or stainless steel boiler, you can use a damp cloth and warm water to wipe them down. After every use, you’ll want to wipe down the portafilter to get rid of stray coffee grounds and other residue. – remember, even the best espresso machines are prone to residue in the filter holder or basket.
As for cleaning the inside of the machine, you’ll need to descale your Gevi machine every few months. Especially if you want to keep making consistent and balanced espresso. Depending on the coffee maker, some espresso machines include warning lights or notifications when it’s time to descale.
If yours doesn’t, descaling after 200 coffee drinks is the standard. Granted, most of us aren’t counting every coffee we make. Still, that works out to be about once every five to six months if you use your machine every day. By the way, Gevi recommends using citric acid descaler with its espresso machines. The manufacturer isn’t trying to push its own brand of descaler either, which scores points with me.
Verdict: Gevi Espresso Machine Reviews
If my Gevi espresso machine reviews have proved anything, it’s that any one of these machines is capable of making flavorful coffee and delicious espresso. So, which coffee maker is right for you? Whether you want something budget and beginner-friendly or a more performance-based espresso machine, check out any of the picks above for the perfect espresso shot.
