Overview: Ninja Kettle Review
As it happens, the Precision Temperature Kettle is Ninja’s first electric kettle. That kind of surprises me, seeing as the manufacturer is such a giant presence in the home appliance market.
Still, having reviewed a bunch of Ninja coffee makers, I’m fairly confident this kettle will be up to snuff. In other words, my experiences using the brand’s drip coffee makers has convinced me that these guys know what they’re doing.
Costing $114.99, the Precision Temperature Kettle isn’t exactly cheap. Then again, this baby has a ton of exciting and thoughtful features to help set it apart from the competition. In saying that, I’m talking about presets for coffee and different kinds of tea, precise manual temperature control as well as a (supposedly) super fast boil time.
Sure, the Ninja kettle is missing a gooseneck spout, so I’m hesitant to recommend it to pour-over aficionados. However, those who want a good kettle for making French press or AeroPress might be interested. What’s more, I know lots of you enjoy drinking tea in between cups of coffee, making this kettle an ideal choice.
Ninja Kettle Features
Let’s continue this Ninja kettle review by digging a little deeper into the features that make it stand out.
Size and Design
Let’s be honest, the Ninja Precision Temperature Kettle isn’t going to win any design awards.
Featuring a rather pedestrian vibe, the Ninja kettle isn’t going to give something like the gorgeous Fellow Stagg EKG Electric Kettle a run for its money in the looks department. Then again, the Ninja kettle will probably fit nicely with any kitchen decor.
Featuring durable stainless steel construction, the Ninja kettle seems pretty darn sturdy. I’m also a fan of the chunky button on the handle for opening the lid. What’s more, there’s a nifty stainless steel limescale filter in the spout which can be removed for easy cleaning.
The Precision Temperature Kettle isn’t the most petite of kitchen appliances, but it does boast a whopping 57-ounce (1.7-liter) capacity. Plus, the kettle’s base is compact and well-designed. Oh, and the cord measures over 31 inches (79 centimeters), which means you shouldn’t have a hard time finding a spot for the kettle on your kitchen counter.
User Interface
Remember that compact base I just mentioned? Well, don’t imagine it means Ninja has sacrificed user friendliness. In fact, the kettle’s user interface is extremely intuitive and well-designed.
Front-and-center on the base is an LCD screen that displays the temperature for any given selection. It also displays the current temperature as the kettle is doing its thing.
Surrounding this are buttons for coffee and multiple tea options, as well as a “Boil” button, “Start/Stop” button and a “Hold Temp” button. What’s more, you can use the plus and minus buttons to manually select your ideal temperature.
Given all those options, I think we can agree that the Ninja Precision Temperature Kettle is about as versatile as it gets.
Illuminated Water Window
Located at the rear of the kettle, the illuminated water window offers an easy way to keep track of water levels. Plus, it features precise level markers for both cups and liters. Best of all, the minimum amount you can boil with this kettle is 5 ounces (148 milliliters), which is great if you want to make a quick AeroPress.
As far as I can gather, there are also level markers inside the kettle, although they are rather difficult to see. So, it seems like relying on the water window will be the way to go.
Rapid Boil
Now we come to one of the main selling points of the Ninja kettle. According to the manufacturer, you’re able to boil 5 ounces of water in as little as 90 seconds. That’s truly impressive if the Ninja kettle can really deliver on that promise. Trust me, once I get my hands on this thing I’ll have my timer at the ready!
One-Touch Presets
Throughout this Ninja kettle review I’ve already touched on the preset options a couple of times. Honestly, I think this is a truly thoughtful feature, especially for those who enjoy experimenting with different teas. Anyway, here are the one-touch presets you’ll find on the Ninja kettle’s control panel:
Coffee – 200 degrees Fahrenheit (95 degrees Celsius)
Green tea – 175 degrees Fahrenheit (80 degrees Celsius)
White tea – 185 degrees Fahrenheit (85 degrees Celsius)
Oolong tea – 195 degrees Fahrenheit (95 degrees Celsius)
Black tea – 205 degrees Fahrenheit (95 degrees Celsius)
Herbal tea – 210 degrees Fahrenheit (100 degrees Celsius)
Of course, there’s also a one-touch boil button too. Oh, and as I mentioned earlier, you’re able to precisely dial in your preferred temperature if you’d like. That’s a great option to have if you like to brew coffees with different roast profiles. Still, I’ll say it again – making pour-over with this kettle won’t be easy. The spout looks sufficiently well-designed for making a Chemex, but you’ll struggle for precision pouring when using a Hario V60 or Kalita Wave.
Hold Function
As you will have guessed, the Ninja Precision Temperature Kettle is all about user friendliness and convenience. That’s why I wasn’t at all surprised to see a hold function on the control panel.
Once you’ve heated water to your selected temperature, pressing the hold button means the Ninja kettle will maintain water at that setting for up to half an hour. I can think of multiple scenarios wherein the hold function would come in handy, especially on those mornings when you just know one cup of coffee isn’t going to cut the mustard!
How to Use the Ninja Kettle
If you’ve made it this far into my Ninja kettle review, you will have cottoned onto the fact that using the thing won’t take much brain power. Still, for the sake of completeness, I’ll give you a quick rundown of what to expect when you’re using the Precision Temperature Kettle for the first time.
Once you’ve unboxed the Ninja kettle, plug in the base then fill the kettle to the maximum indicator line. Next, boil the kettle before discarding the water. The manufacturer recommends doing this twice, but I’ll leave that up to you.
Now it’s time to actually use the Ninja Precision Temperature Kettle. Start by adding your desired amount of water. Then, you can use one of the preset buttons or dial in your own temperature using the plus and minus buttons. Once you’re ready, press the Start/Stop button and watch as the kettle displays the temperature rising.
Once your water is ready, the kettle will beep to alert you. Now’s the time to press the Hold button if you want to maintain the water temperature. Incidentally, it’s been brought to my attention that the beeping sound is rather obnoxious. Fortunately, you can disable this function by pressing a specific combination of buttons. I’ll leave it to the user manual to explain that!
Ninja Kettle Cleaning
When it comes to cleaning and descaling your Ninja kettle, there really isn;t much to take care of. That said, descaling this, or any kettle is super important. Even if you’re using filtered water.
Not only will regular descaling prolong the life of your kettle, it’ll help the thing perform properly and efficiently. So, I’d recommend performing a descaling cycle before you even notice limescale building up inside.
To do so, simply fill the kettle with equal parts water and white vinegar, before letting it sit for half an hour. Then, pour out the solution and rinse the kettle really well. Personally, I like to then boil a full pot and discard that water too.
The only other cleaning task you’ll want to perform is wiping down the exterior of the Ninja kettle with a damp cloth. That’ll keep it looking good and make you feel better about yourself!

From what I can tell, the Ninja’s many features and reasonable asking price could make it a real winner. Still, if you’re looking for something more sophisticated with a gooseneck spout, consider checking out the similarly priced Bonavita Digital Variable Temperature Kettle instead.
I hope you’ve enjoyed my initial Ninja kettle review. Do any of you own this versatile appliance? Tell me about your experiences in the comments section!
