When I sat down to write this best Miele coffee machine guide, I had to check that the manufacturer was still in business. This premium German household appliance brand seems to have such little appetite for innovation or modern trappings that it barely features in my guide to the best fully automatic espresso machines.
Nevertheless, all Miele countertop coffee machines performed really well in my tests. And although the coffee and milk foam functions don’t offer any outstanding features, they deliver first-class quality in the cup.
So should we take a closer look at the best Miele coffee machines? Absolutely! Because the following machines in particular can easily compete with other brands:
In this guide, I’ll tell you all about the current lineup of Miele fully automatic machines. I’ll also get into what to expect from a Miele coffee maker as well as why you might want to buy one.
Table of Contents
Miele Fully Automatic Models at a Glance
Miele isn’t really the king of countertop super automatics, but definitely rules the built-in fully automatic espresso machine sector. This fits perfectly with the brand, which specializes in fully integrated kitchen equipment and high-end household appliances.
I don’t review built-in coffee machines for various reasons, but I have had the chance to put a few Miele countertop models through their paces.
Not much has changed since I first encountered Miele. The range of machines is also always updated slowly and cautiously. Some might call this sluggishness, but I consider it a sign of confidence in their own products.
Before we take a closer look at each currently available machine, I should clarify what all models deliver.
One of the most distinctive features of Miele is that even in the lower price ranges, you get an incredible number of features that are considered extras elsewhere or make coffee machines more expensive. These include:
One-touch preparation of all beverages (central spout for coffee and milk dispensing)
OneTouch for Two function for coffee & milk drinks
Pot function even in the “entry-level” category
Wide range of specialty drinks
Expert mode for adjusting settings “on the fly”
Intuitive display and controls
Milk foam via hygienic cappuccinatore
Super easy to use & clean
Removable brew unit
Quiet stainless steel conical burr grinder
Miele Coffee Machines I’ve Reviewed
Of the five Miele fully automatic coffee machines I’ve reviewed, one is no longer available on the manufacturer’s website. The other four models are very much available there and on Amazon.

Miele Fully Automatic Coffee Machines by Series
Within a machine series, the differences between the available models are often marginal and relate to special colors, extra accessories or one or two push-button functions for greater ease of use.
That’s why it makes more sense to compare classes based on their special features. This is a little more difficult with Miele than with other brands, precisely because features such as a pot function or the OneTouch For Two function are practically thrown in for good measure.

Currently available for $1,785.69, the Miele CM 5310 Silence is the German manufacturer’s least expensive fully automatic espresso machine. Still, let’s not forget that this price doesn’t exactly make the CM 5310 a budget-friendly coffee machine.
Featuring a menu of only eight specialty drinks, you may feel like the Miele CM 5310 is limited in its abilities. However, you are able to customize drinks to your liking by adjusting settings like coffee strength and temperature. On the other hand, this machine only has a memo function rather than user profiles for storing your creations.
Featuring an LCD screen surrounded by sensor buttons, operating the CM 5310 is a breeze. Still, this compact model has a small water tank and bean hopper, so it’ll require frequent refills. Finally, the Miele CM 5310 doesn’t come with a milk container, which is surprising given its premium price tag.

The wonderful Miele CM 6160 represents a big step up from the aforementioned CM 5310. Still, you’ll have to shell out a lot more money – this thing will set you back $2,499.00.
So, what does the extra investment get you? Well, for starters, this is a bigger machine with a 60.9-ounce (1.9-liter) water reservoir and a 10.6-ounce (300-gram) bean hopper. So, we’re already talking about increased levels of convenience. What’s more, the Miele CM 6160 is equipped with double milk pipework and a self-cleaning milk system. Elsewhere, the CM 6160 comes with the manufacturer’s awesome DoubleShot function, wherein the machine grinds and brews twice for a double espresso.
Featuring an extensive menu loaded with 18 preset specialty drinks, the Miele CM 6160 also lets you tweak settings like preinfusion time and shot volume. Oh, and this baby has four user profiles, making it ideal for coffee-loving families.

Regular Coffeeness readers will already know that the Miele CM 6360 MilkPerfection is the best Miele coffee machine I’ve tested.
I truly believe this model has everything you need to make exceptional espresso and milk-based specialties. And I don’t even care about the rather old-fashioned user interface. After all, it works just fine, and navigating the menus and settings couldn’t be easier.
The CM 6360 features an extensive menu of specialty coffee drinks and offers a whopping eight user profiles. Plus, it has the same double milk pipework and DoubleShot function as the CM 6160. Even better, there’s an actively heated cup warmer up top, although the machine makes really hot espresso and coffee.
Speaking of espresso, I was blown away by the quality of the coffee the CM 6360 produced during my test. Seriously, if you’re a fan of rich, full-bodied and chocolatey espresso, this fantastic machine will be your new best friend!

Now we come to the manufacturer’s flagship machine, the outrageous Miele CM 7750 CoffeeSelect. Costing a rather astronomical $4,499.00, the CM 7750 is going to be a tough sell for most folks. However, I could see it appealing to those on the lookout for the best office coffee maker.
Miele has outdone itself with the CM 7750 CoffeeSelect. Not only is this a big, bold machine with a huge water tank and 20 specialty drink options, there are three bean hoppers on board. That means you can switch between a variety of your best espresso beans, depending on how you’re feeling. Although there aren’t multiple grinders too, the CM 7750 grinder has been especially designed to eliminate coffee residue in between cycles. So, when you switch to a new blend, you can be sure you won’t be getting leftovers from the last brew.
The Miele CM7750 offers 10 user profiles, which only adds to its appeal in a commercial setting. Plus, it’s compatible with Miele’s app, for what it’s worth.

Advantages & Disadvantages of Miele Fully Automatic Coffee Machines
In my individual Miele reviews, I repeatedly come back to the theory that Miele fully automatic coffee machines don’t offer any ultra-modern features because they simply don’t need to. Interestingly enough, this was confirmed by a sales representative I once chatted with. She also said something that I have noticed time and time again:
Other manufacturers take a very close look at Miele’s standalone fully automatic coffee machines and steal the best ideas in terms of operation and preparation. However, most idea theft occurs in the area of cleaning.
Miele was the first brand that allowed you to put the drip tray in the dishwasher. And the first with a self-cleaning milk hose.
To date, Miele is the only manufacturer of fully automatic coffee machines with automatic descaling. And that surprises me. After all, this would be an even bigger selling point than a self-cleaning brewing unit or a water tank with automatic water filter monitoring.
All these unique and special features can be evaluated in two ways:
On the one hand, the typical Miele customer values high quality and reliability – everything else is just a gimmick.
On the other hand, the fully automatic coffee machine sector is increasingly setting itself apart. Because even if proper preparation, ease of use and automatic anti-contamination features are important, modern concepts are simply part of the incentive to buy.
PROS
- Extremely high-quality construction
- Stylish design
- Emphasis on proven functionality
- Groundbreaking cleaning functions
- Advanced features across all models
- Drinks always very hot
- Sophisticated programming
CONS
- Machines seem increasingly outdated
- Antiquated display concept
- App feels irrelevant
- Questionable price-performance ratio
Grinder
Miele’s stainless steel conical burr grinder is nothing special, but it is superior in one respect: even though there are five settings, you have room to maneuver between clicks. Sure, this isn’t a true stepless adjustment system, but it does give you a lot of wiggle room.
This makes it easier to fine-tune the grind for specific coffee roast profiles and ultimately ensures better drinks.
As I already mentioned, the grinder noise level is absolutely fine. Whether the “silent” versions make a difference is open to debate. Miele fully automatic coffee machines were already quiet before – precisely because they are well designed in terms of construction and insulation.
Coffee & Espresso
There has never been anything to complain about when it comes to coffee or espresso from a Miele fully automatic machine. While other brands were still trying to extract enough flavor from coffee beans, the Gütersloh-based company had long since found the right formula.
Perhaps the espresso lacks some of the aromatic depth of true push-button coffee experts such as Jura. After all, the coffee experience is always straightforward and tends toward a classic taste in the cup. Still, that seems to be intentional, given Miele’s target audience.
If you’re always complaining about the coffee temperature on other fully automatic coffee machines, Miele is the perfect choice for you. The factory settings are already very high, but you can make it even hotter at the touch of a button. In fact, I usually find myself reducing the temperature on Miele coffee machines during my reviews.
Incidentally, the pot function also works better than on some other machines. Although the coffee tends to get a little watery if you prepare a full pot, you can immediately tell from the taste that the manufacturer has also given thought to the enjoyment and practicality of this function.
Milk Foam
You can clearly see the development arc of Miele machines through the quality of the milk foam. Whereas latte macchiatos and cappuccinos used to be a little too compact and frothy, they have become creamier and more modern with each update.
I’ve also noticed that the pricier machines definitely deliver superior milk foam.
As already mentioned, you should choose a MilkPerfection model in the 6 series, while a CM 55 fully automatic coffee machine is the best choice in the 5 series. If you opt for the premium CM 7750, this fully automatic coffee machine will provide you with some of the best foam I’ve ever seen.
Operation & Display
I have often discussed whether a fully automatic coffee machine offers greater ease of use thanks to a modern touchscreen and other features. Miele is practically staying out of this discussion. Although the CM 7750 features a touchscreen, the rest hardly seem any more modern than a good old push button.
On the other hand, the machines always have digital displays, even if they are quite small and mainly text-based. In my opinion, this makes them more difficult to use if you have poor eyesight or mobility issues.
Apart from that, ease of use also depends on adjustability and menu navigation. Miele is absolutely up to date in this respect, as the process is guaranteed to be relatively uncomplicated.
However, I consider the Miele@Home app to be totally useless. At least if you want to use it to operate your fully automatic coffee machine properly.
Similar to Siemens, it is an all-in-one solution for the smart home, in which the coffee machine plays only a minor role. Trust me, you won’t get more out of your fully automatic coffee machine by using it.
Cleaning & Maintenance
Even if I complain about the coffee taste or technical features, a Miele countertop fully automatic coffee machine leads the way when it comes to cleaning.
The automatic descaling feature of the premium CM 7750 model is unmatched to date. Then again, this machine is extremely expensive.
Clearly, this is the ultimate luxury in cleaning. But descaling fully automatic coffee machines isn’t so terribly time-consuming that you need to buy a $4,500 machine to do it for you. Nevertheless, I understand that the self-descaling argument is compelling.
The Right Settings for Miele Fully Automatic Coffee Machines
If we compare the most affordable Miele coffee machine (CM 5310) with the most expensive model (CM 7750), there is only one difference in terms of settings:
While the smaller fully automatic coffee machine’s coffee volume parameters range from 0.7 to 10 ounces (20 to 300 milliliters), the CM 7750 only allows for 0.8 to 8.4 ounces (25 to 250 milliliters).
Otherwise, I give the brand high marks for not limiting its cheaper versions in terms of preparation, but instead giving us a great deal of freedom across the entire model range and offering precision settings.
The concept is so consistent across all classes that you can adopt my recommendations for almost any Miele countertop coffee machine without thinking twice:
Grind setting: Between 1 and 2
Drink volume: 0.8-1.4 ounces (25-40 milliliters) for espresso; 4 ounces (120 milliliters) for coffee
Coffee strength: Around two levels below maximum
Coffee temperature: Slightly lower than factory setting
In addition, you always have the option of turning the pre-infusion function on or off. I recommend leaving it on, as this helps develop coffee flavor – and not just in a Miele fully automatic coffee machine.
Cleaning and Descaling Miele Coffee Machines
Let’s clarify the most important thing first: how does automatic descaling actually work? The Miele CM 7750 with this added convenience feature has a built-in descaling cartridge located directly inside the machine.
You can use the timer to set a daily descaling cycle, eliminating any problems with descaling tablets or similar products. Still, whether a fully automatic coffee machine needs to be descaled daily isn’t a subject I want to get into right now.
Either way, Miele promises that the cartridge will last up to a year, even with daily use. I haven’t had any practical experience with this yet, though. Elsewhere, it’s easy to deal with other cleaning tasks:
The brewing unit, the water tank, etc. can be easily removed and rinsed
Drip tray, used grounds container, etc. may be placed in the dishwasher
You can easily vacuum out the grinder from time to time
The respective operating instructions will provide you with detailed guidance, even if some models have a few special features that you should be aware of. For example, if a machine has the automatic CupSensor, you shouldn’t simply take the dispensing spout apart without consulting the manual.
Repair & Spare Parts
You can find water tanks, brewing units and replacement parts for the dispensing spout on the manufacturer’s website. Plus, you can also put in a request for any necessary repairs.
If you want to use an independent repair shop or the maintenance services of a large electronics store, a Miele fully automatic coffee machine often costs a little more than cheaper brands.
However, if you use and maintain your machine properly, I doubt you’ll ever need a repair service. One of the special features of Miele machines is that they promise a service life of up to 15 years – longer than any other manufacturer.
Of course, I can’t say how all this applies to built-in fully automatic coffee machines. The fact is that you can’t just take them to the repair shop as easily as you can your countertop model.
The Best Coffee Beans for Miele Fully Automatic Coffee Machines
Miele includes a portion of its own branded coffee in the box when you buy one of its current models. In the anniversary editions, the beans are more precisely titled Miele Café Crema. These and other roasts are available directly from the manufacturer as well as in various online shops.
According to a press release, all Miele beans come from the Vollmer roastery in Altenberge near Münster. This roastery is a white label specialist for many brands, but you will find little to no information about its own range online.
I can’t comment on how the Miele beans taste. At least they carry a fairtrade certification. However, we don’t learn anything more about their origin, the bean variety or other transparency criteria. But that doesn’t surprise me in the least.
In general, Miele models can handle all typical coffee beans that you’d use in a fully automatic espresso machine. As long as dessert notes such as chocolate or caramel dominate the flavor profile, you will always achieve a good cup.
If you like coffee specialties with lots of fresh notes, Miele coffee is not quite the right choice for you. However, you may notice a hint of dark fruit.
You can at least use the coffee beans from the Miele delivery for setting up the machine. And then consider switching to my Coffeeness Signature Espresso Roast. It’ll definitely taste good – and offers an equitably traded alternative to other more opaque products.
Why am I so sure they are suitable for Miele coffee specialties? Because I’ve tested and developed them in these machines!
Coffeeness Medium Roast Espresso
Well-balanced with chocolate & hazelnut notes
Freshly roasted in Brooklyn
Very low acidity
Miele vs Jura
Given the price and exceptional design of Miele countertop coffee machines, it’s difficult to find suitable competitor manufacturers from my guide to the best fully automatic espresso machines.
Jura coffee machines are definitely the best choice for a Miele comparison. If only because both manufacturers place great emphasis on their image and sometimes charge exorbitant prices.
When we take a closer look at the coffee results, ease of use and other factors, both brands are surprisingly close to each other:
When it comes to product lines, Jura is the clear leader, making it easier to find the right model for your kitchen or needs. On the other hand, Jura can offer overpriced junk, while you can practically buy Miele blindly – even if the respective fully automatic coffee machine is also expensive.
However, the price-performance ratio seems more balanced to me, as you get durable appliances that last for a long time, some of which are even higher quality. And despite their bulkiness and sometimes outdated appearance, I find Miele fully automatic coffee machines much more attractive than Jura in the design department. Then again, that’s a matter of taste.
Even though Jura has a much more modern operating concept, this doesn’t mean that it’s better.
After all, the Swiss are constantly coming up with new menu navigation systems, touch displays and settings (milk foam in seconds?!) that are often confusing. And a pot function is also a rarity.
In one respect, however, Jura is miles ahead. Both in terms of technology and the resulting taste of the coffee specialties, Gütersloh tends to produce rather stale products, while the Swiss constantly come up with great ideas – from electronic grinders to groundbreaking, multifaceted brewing technology.
However, although I generally prefer Jura, I consider Miele to be practically just as good. Just from a different perspective.
The Best Miele Coffee Machine: A Decision for Life?
Anyone who buys a Miele countertop coffee machine will be unlikely to replace it with another model from my best fully automatic espresso machine guide in the coming years. That’s exactly what makes this brand so special: consistency, reliable enjoyment and coffee with lasting appeal.
Is even the best Miele coffee machine seductive or super modern? No. Does it even need to feel cutting edge? No. In my opinion, the Miele CM 6360 MilkPerfection offers the best combination of coffee flavor and comparatively affordable performance.
What’s your opinion? Do you have a countertop coffee machine from Miele or are you thinking about buying one? Or can you even tell us something about the brand’s built-in fully automatic coffee machines? The comments section is all yours!
